What happened to Audioholics.com?

Does anyone here ever hit http://www.audioholics.com? I haven't been able to bring the site up for four days now. I wonder what happened? Does the site work for anyone else?

Damn...that's odd. I haven't been able to get on all week. I'm not sure how I'd know if my server was having problems.

Rob,

Try reaching the site via the IP address. Maybe, your ISPs servers can't handle the DNS translation at this time.

I'll probably have to contact the boneheads at my cable company & see what's up. Thanks for the link anyway.

Mostly I just skim the reviews occasionally and hang at the forum there, though obviously not as much as I hang here!

They probably banned my IP address to prevent me from clogging up their servers!

Really strange, my browser just pops up the white screen and says it can't find it. It's been over a week since I've been able to get on and I've tried from several different PCs.

I can't bring the site up either. The DNS does resolve but I cannot connect via http to the server. A WhoIs seacrh shows the record as active.

I emailed their admin, and got some of the same info as Mike G gave me. One of them suggested my "ISP is really far off their DSN?" or some type of technospeak like that. This is bumming me out- it's been two or more weeks now and I've had no luck. Monday I'll have to call my local provider again and see what the hell's up.

Rob,

I have found out why I can't access the site from home. It's my broadband router/firewall. I have an SMC7008ABR router. It's log reports **smurf** attacks from 69.94.12.255 if I try the audioholics.com website. It appears the router considers this an attack because the packets are coming from a .255 address. In many cases the .255 address is a broadcast address and is not used for hosts. I suspect if they were on a different address than .255 there would be no problem.

I tried disabling the firewall on the router and was able to access the site with no problems. However, I'm not willing to shut down the firewall function on my router and thus will not be visiting that site unless they change their address. Note that I had not been there before and so didn't know what I might be missing. You might contact their tech folks again and let them know that using a .255 address is causing some firewalls to treat their packets an attack because this is normally a broadcast address.

This is not a DNS problem or a problem with the ISP, at least in my case.

Thanks, Mike. You're really not missing a lot. I happen to hang there because a few guys I've gotten to know frequent the forums there. Several of them aren't really comfortable with AC- they think it's a bit to "expert" for them!

The site is run by some engineers who are ultra-objectivists. I like the reviews and they do a lot of them.

I did consider that maybe my router/firewall was blocking the new site, as I had no trouble whatsoever before they migrated to the new one. I haven't tried it yet, though. Like you say, I'm not keen on running with my ports wide open to any virus or worm that wants to wiggle in. Besides, the PC is use every day is upstairs and the modem & router are downstairs. There really is no practical way for me to get off the router except to use a different machine. What a PITA.
