Yep.  Went with the special over the C1 mainly because of the lower reach.  They sure is purdy....

Thats a VERY good choice with your current room configuration. I have A/B between the C1 and S25 and for your room the 25 is the way to go...it definitely rocks! I think we have quite a few Bryston + Dynaudio system here..  :D

First song suggestions?  I'm thinking maybe "Enemy Fire" by Ryan Adams...

Ryan Adams "Gold" is a great album.  'Enemy Fire" your favorite?

Probably is my favorite on that album.  Also I think it's got the right dynamics to impress.

I'm an old school listener, I typically listen to entire albums so I tend not to have "favorite" songs but more favorite albums.  And I agree, gold is...well...gold...  :D

Congrats!  They look lovely.

Just curious, why are your fingers crossed - is it not yet a done deal?

Will you be trading in your current Dyns or keeping them on for comparison, for awhile?

After two years with my Dynaudio S1.4s I have upgraded (hopefully, crosses fingers)

 :D :D :D :D :D

"In celebration of Dynaudio North America’s 15-Year Anniversary, the North American market re-issue of the original anniversary model will be a limited run of 75 pairs finished inan exclusive Bordeaux stained, gloss over bird’s eye maple veneer featuring a
signed solid aluminum back plate and a 15 year warranty."

Let me see, bigger and better drivers, crossover and cabinet, just the Esotar drivers are almost worth the price of admission, ,great synergy with Bryston.
Yup you should be okay Tom as far as an upgrade goes, sort of like going from a Bryston 2B to a 4B, same sound, just more of what you liked about your S1.4s while adding what you may have felt or hadn’t realized had been missing.

For those of you unfamiliar with Jaxwired’s new additions here’s a review of the current re-issue, which mirrors my personal experience to a “T”.

It's a done deal.  Just crossing my fingers because I've never heard them.  But as a long time Dyn owner it's not a big risk.  Dyn speakers tend to share a house sound.  At least thats been my experience so far having owned 3 different models.
I'll be selling my current Contour S1.4s once I'm sure I didn't make a mistake.

That is one beautiful veneer and as I've said on Audiogon, you have an awesome listening space to put them in :)

Sometimes upgrading can be a leap of faith or an educated decision (guess), Bryston and Dynaudio IMO share similar philosophies in trying to get the listener closer to the original sound. Paradoxically though when it came to choosing the 25s over the C1s, from what I read and heard it was as if the C1s could no wrong, every thing sounded great while the 25s have a tendency to show it as, great recordings exceeding the C1s, poor recordings shown as they really are… poor recordings, which I’ve found is usually closer to the truth and what I want from my sound system but a neutral revealing system is not for everyone.

To quote one Italian review which sums it up quite poetically (google translate)
“Conclusions.
The Special 25 is bohemian soul, bright and contrasty, a little 'anarchic, a little' snob, a bit unruly, it remains a challenge for everyone.
The C1 is polite and composed the version of the Special 25, but no less exciting.”

Anyway, as a Dyn owner you're aware of the (sometimes painful) 200hr + break-in, unlike electronics which can sound stellar straight from the box, before passing judgement.

The 25s powered by the 4BSST should take of the nether regions until Tom's next upgrade bug! :D

Are you sure about that? I'm running 2 8 inch woofers per channel driven by the 4BSST, and it's lacking in the bass department.

These are beautiful speakers.  Since they are a limited edition I doubt that I would be able to audition them anywhere.  Which Dynaudio speakers would be the most comparable to the Special 25s?

They are actually not quite the same...and you can tell even blind folded in an A/B audition. C1 is not as transparent as 25 and doesn't go as deep either. However, C1 can be very musical and forgiving in some tracks. They are both equally good and its a matter of taste...
