I am trying to use my lap top as a music server, but the music stops after a while, then plays for 10-20 seconds and stops again. Can anyone help me find out why. I recently downloaded the J. River trial player thinking I would be able to access it for sound but not.

I am using a dell, windows 7, and a hagusb.

Is the music intermittent if you playback with J. River using the laptop's internal soundcard and speakers instead of USB out through the HagUsb to a DAC?

Perhaps this thread on AA will help. Sound like it might be a buffering or latency issue.

I have since deactivated software running in the background such as a virus scanner, and it seems to be working without a hitch.

I guess I was wrong, it is still happening just taking longer to do so. I am trying it through laptop speakers now.

Yes it is intermittent, through just the laptops speakers. What does that mean?

I also just turned off wireless connection and Firewall. (I thought I had turned that off.) Will either of these have an impact on my problem?

Well I believe I have it fixed now. I needed to disable all enhancements on the sound setup, as well as make sure antivirus and firewall are turned off. Forgot to turn off antivirus again this morning and it started again. Shut it off and all is fine.
