Heard any cool covers lately? Maybe something that takes the original off in a whole new and unexpected direction...or just interprets it in a very cool way? Share 'em with us all!

Here's a couple that have caught my ear lately:

a) TV On The Radio ( LOVE THIS BAND! ) taking The Pixies' Mr Grieves from Doolittle and absolutely re-inventing it as an a cappella doowop number. Check out the harmonies - Fantastic!

I almost never like when others cover Beatles' songs, but I do enjoy "She's a Woman" by Omar and the Howlers on their "Monkey Land" release.

OTOH I nearly always enjoy covers of Bob Dylan tunes. My fav is Johnny Winter doing "Highway 61" from his "Second Winter" release.

Emmylou Harris does a lot of covers. One of my favorites is "Racing in the Street" by Bruce Stringsteen. The version on her Songbird box set is much better than this YouTube clip. The commentary in the middle of the clip is interesting--but not surprising. Emmylou picks songs for their lyrics, not their origin. If she wants to sing a song, she is going to sing it--her way.

The original, laminated 3-D cover for Their Satanic Majesties Request. There was all sorts of interesting stuff going on in there -- the photo that replaced it is no comparison at all.

I guess another possible nominee is the Beatles' White Album...

And the R.Crumb cover for Cheap Thrills, of course!
