Anyone got a Larger Sub w/OMG 12" & 15" & BBPR?

Just would like to hear from anyone who has this sub or has heard it.  Reviews and especially comparisons to other subs would be extremely interesting.  This sub would be at roughly the same price point as some other competitors' offerings (eD, Chase, JTR, Seaton) and It would be very good to hear how this premium driver setup fares against the other manufacturers that get all the mention in other forums.

Hi LR,

The subs you mentioned above are more HT oriented and VMPS has it roots in producing the finer harmonics of musical bass.

The OMG options DOES take the OUTPUT up enormously, and in doing so slightly reduces musicality.  If you are familiar with CAR Audio them you have heard what happens when High Output is the primary design goal.

When you move to the outer levels of physics (accellerations of mass to create frequencies) acoustical accuracy becomes a victim, so it will always be a trade off.  Speaker and SUB design is simply an exercise in electro and dynamic physics.

Response, performance, and distortion are all affected by what you are trying to do.

Because of the weight and size of the OMG drivers we recommend them in the VSS and VLA woofers only.  The Larger with its 1" MDF construction is really not strong enough to hold them.  The Ultramegas (and a Big Bump PR)do almost as well without shaking the enclosure to death.

OK, that's what I thought I'd heard but I asked because that product is still shown in John Casler's VMPS price list thread.

Hi LW, we are working on updating that "monster" soon.

It is hard to keep up with Big B, he lets no grass grow beneath his feet.

While we are on the subject...

:)

I have a pair of smaller subs I got a while back. How do I tell if they have megawoofers or not?  I am guessing the OMG drivers would not fit?

how hard is it to replace the drivers?  Do I need to take the cabinet apart/

Thanks!

The SMALLERS were before my time, but if the active drivers are made from WCF (woven carbon fiber) chances are it is a version of the MegaWoofer.

It is actually quite easy to remove and replace the drivers.

You simply remove the screws, take the driver out, and disconnet the leads (making sure to note which goes to which speaker terminal)

It is best to take the PR out first, so you can apply pressure to the active driver from the inside if it is sticking.

Brian could tell you more accurately if the OMG would fit, but more than likely (since they generally have a larger circumference) it would require surgery.

Your best bet is the 12" ULTRAMegaWoofer, and BB PR.

Not to thread hi-jack..

I checked last night, the woofers have a smooth cone, no woven material.

the ultramega woofers then would be two versions newer than the woofers I have?

The big bump passive radiator would represent an upgrade for the passive radiator that is in there now?

would these drivers be compatible with the cabinet?  I don't think I really need the OMG but it sounds like for around 300 bucks I could do a nice upgrade to the two smaller subs?

is there some sort of sealant that needs to go around the drivers when installing?

thanks!

I have PM'd your price on the Mega and ULTRAMegaWoofer and BB PR to you.

You are correct the BB PR would be a large upgrade to the present PR.

They are "drop in" compatible.

The drivers arrive with gasket tape to seal them with the cabinet.
