Hi all,We all love movies here, but who loves the fact that Netflix,in this economy doubled the price of membership.I joined Netflix to get away from the high cost of cable TV.They were growing quite well.To me this is the same as 4 dollar a gallon gas going to 8 over night with no given reason. Is anyone else out there pissed off?....Mark Korda

I think its annoying but not surprising.  Lowish prices to bring in their, now sizeable, customer base and then raise them.  This was coming sooner or later.

When I found out I cancelled the DVD rental portion of my agreement and now I just get the streaming straight to my Sony player...or my laptop..

good luck..

Perhaps, but I never liked that strategy. Guess its time to "call the question" on Netflix for me. Though, the price only goes up if you want Streaming AND DVD's by mail. If you stick with one of the delivery methods, the price stays about the same.

Its the new business strategy of many, many companies in todays world.......bring them in and knock everyone else out and then completely and utterly screw them. I will wait until August 31st and then cancel both services and while I know it won't effect Netflix much it will make me feel much better and that whole scenario my friends is SAD and what we have become....

As long as the Blockbuster service is around I'll stick with them, cheaper for physical media and same speed shipping to my house.  I do miss instant streaming but only one price increase in 3 years, makes it worth it.  Hope the company survives bankruptcy.

I'm certainly not happy about this, but I can't really leave Netflix.  I started with them because there is no way I'm buying Blu-rays.  I have a few that I rewatch, but I need Netflix to watch Blu-rays.  I'll be cancelling the streaming on August 31.  Stupid Netflix... :x

I think the price rise is due to the fact that the content providers are charging Netflix much higher licensing fees now.

I too thought the timing on this was odd given Amazon coming into the streaming marketplace as competition.  I'll probably stick with physical media as well for the larger amount of titles and the bluray content.

I didn't know amazon had this deal. Looks like $79.00 a year or $6.58 a month. No tax. I'm thinking!!!

I've been a Netflix member since their inception trial run in San Jose, CA.  Their prices have regularly crept upwards.  I liked the streaming option when it was added FREE OF CHARGE to my membership but prefer having physical Blu-rays.  We've watched a few streamed movies and TV shows but the quality just isn't there.  Streaming has never even approached Blu-ray quality and our devices are all hard wired ethernet connected to a blazing fast cable connection.  I plan to drop streaming and stick with the Blu-ray only.  There are too many other outlets with free streamed content to pay for it.

Their streaming service does not measure up to their physical stock, nor in the performance area...I think the streaming service does not warrant price parity with the physical service.
I will be selecting DVD by mail come Sept.1.

Agree.  I found the picture quality to be poor and irradict using a bridge device.  So I'm saving dough by going disc only.

Interesting article out of AP today...
http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2011/07/14/technology-specialized-consumer-services-us-netflix-why-the-price-hike_8564613.html

They're trying to drive people toward streaming only and they've done the opposite to me - Today I switched to the unlimted 3 DVD + Blu-ray without streaming option.  Looks like most here agree.

If they're trying to increase per subsciber revenue they've not succeeded with me - my monthly charge is actually going down.

I'll be dropping the streaming option.  However, I suspect that the folks here at AC are not really the target market for Netflix.  We are more demanding of picture quality compare to the younger mainstream.  They see the future of their business in streaming and are making a move to consolidate their market share in view of more aggressive competition.  I suspect they are right.

I use a Roku box for streaming. I can't tell the difference between it and my Oppo DVD player. No BluRay

Three kids, two adults, theater, teacher, canceled both, would rather go to library, rent from apple..i know, but i am not going to fapl prey to this.  If enough leave, the business model will fail and they ll go back to the old way.  If i was told.that my single.dvd plus.streaming was going up 2 dollars, no big deal, double cost....good bye farwell, hosta pasta, whatever terk u want......

I will be closing down my Netflix account before the new pricing takes effect.  I will use Amazon for streaming.

Cancelled Netflix a while back - I request movies from my library (great online database), and use redbox for "new release" type movies.  Definitely more convenient and cheaper :)  I hate streaming movies, quality is too poor.
