I have a pair of Hoyt-Bedford Type 1s on Lovan Jazz 18" stands with the uprights filled with fine crushed glass (like sand but without the moisture and organics).  In my many years in audio professionally and as a consumer I have found low powered amps to be (as a rule) more musical than high powered ones, but the problem has been to find affordable high efficiency speakers suitable for these often affordable little gems.  The Type 1 and it's siblings are clearly the answer at 97db efficiency and no cross over.  I have run these speakers with the 20w/ch Ideal Innovations Elite 80 PP tube amp, Decware 2w/ch SE84 and SE84 Select SET amps, and the 8w/ch Firestone Audio Big Joe class a/b chip amp.  The sound is astounding!  3D, PRAT, tone, attack and decay on notes, inner detail, bottom end, all with an utter effortlessness.
The high efficiency of these speakers is a double edged sword, positive in both directions.
1) They sound unbelievably good in their own right.
2) They bring out the superior dynamics of low and flea powered amps.
