Revel Salon 2s with Bryston
« on: 6 Jul 2011, 07:52 pm »
Hello All,

This is my first post.  I couldn't resist after finishing my system.  I am running the following:

Amps:               28B SST2
Pre:                  BP25
CD:                  BCD-1
Inter:               Bryston Balanced XLR
Speaker Cable: Bryston (clear)
Speakers          Revel Salon2

I just got the new Salons put in a couple of weeks ago.  I have to tell you, if you can get better sound I am not sure how in my room.  My wife now says that as far as I am concerned, this is the reference for how things should sound!

Thanks to Bryston for making the massive 28Bs.  The Revels love the power and the house rocks! :thumb:

Enjoy the music!  How did you arrive at your current system?  Buy new?  S/H?  A gradual upgrade path.. or a straight dive in?   How did you choose your speaker wire and XLR connects?  Also, I'm curious- were you working with a Bryston dealer?

Thank you everyone...I apologize for the long delay in responding.  Pictures will be coming soon.  Right now my entire  house is ripped  apart for a remodel.  The Salon's are actually in my bedroom...facing a wall...not hooked up!

I actually arrived at my system through a process of upgrades.  I started out with some NAD and Mission speakers.  Then I found Bryston and because of the amazing warranty I purchased a 3B-ST.  Then I sold that for what I paid a year later and bought a 4b-ST and some Focal 826Vs.  I ditched the NAD and bought a BP-25 used but unopened.  I just wasn't happy with the sound so I bought the BCD-1 new about 2 years ago.

My biggest annoyance in the deal was cables.  I had all kinds of cables for varying amounts of money.  Thankfully, Bryston took the voodoo out of it fore me and just sells the cables they use for their components and for professional studios.  Once I let that sink into my brain....and used them throughout...I finally got the sound I was looking for.  It only makes sense to use what they suse when testing and evaluating their products, and setting up professional studios.

The last step was the biggest.  The 28BSST2.  Now those I bought used and that took some conversation with the wife.  But once I had them and had the electrician out to run discrete home-run 20 amp lines for each amp, I blew my wife a way and she was sold.  We then decided it was time to finish the system, so we looked at everything under the sun.  Maggies, ML, Sonus, Wilson Sasha and Sophia 3s, B&W any thing we could find in the under $30k range.  In the end, the Revels beat them all for our ears.

That is my story and I now feel like I have a system for a many years to come.

I bought everything used off of Ebay or Audiogon and have had nothing but an outstanding experience with Bryston, even though I bought used.  Estimate that my current system new is about 45K.  I paid just over 25K for all of it....;-).

I will share some pics when the system is set up again.  Also, they are still breaking in with the 28Bs.....only had about 10 days on them before I had to tear it down.

Thank you for the warm welcome.  I love this stuff!

-Mike

Sounds like a great system.....can't wait to see pictures! Your comments on the cables makes sense. I currently need a new set of interconnects to run from my preamp, and I am seriously considering Bryston.
