Great price.  I had mine in the secondary bedroom system for years and now it is in the secondary basement system where is serves as a transport into an HDMI audio de-embedder for hi-rez PCM from SACD.  In addition, you can just put a 4 digit code into the remote and make it a region free DVD player.  Lot of value for the money

I agree. I wouldn't be selling except my first generation Sony Blu Ray player is acting up and one of the new Oppo units seems like the best solution.

Could not agree with you more.  For me, I have a BDP-93 in the secondary bedroom system, a modded BDP-83 in the main system and the secondary basement system gets the hand me downs.  I have both a PS3 and a Samsung 2500 for Blu-Ray (bought the PS3 for the basement and rotated the Samsung down there after I got the BDP-93) and just wanted something that could play all formats.  Some one gave me a Region 3 disc and I was about to try it on the PC and found a simple code to put in the remote to make the DV980H region free and it worked.

I discovered the region-free code as well. My wife is a big fan of Sally Potter's "The Tango Lesson." (Don't ask me why!) We had a VHS version of this film, which was fine, until the player died. Since this was the only videotape we ever played, it didn't make sense to buy a new unit. I decided instead to look for a DVD. I eventually located one, but it was only available as a Region 2 disk. That's wasn't a problem with the 980H. A couple of button presses and the remote, and we were good to go.

Steve,

Phil PM'd me with the code and some other helpful info.

I know I will enjoy this player.

Thanks to both of you.
