neither - a preamp needs tubes, imo...


I agree with that somewhat, but I have a tube in the EE DAC which helps. OTOH, my components sit in an enclosed cabinet which can get toasty with too many tubey gear... hence the SS.

most tube preamps don't run too hot.  and, you can always open the cabinet when listening.   :wink:  for me, the preamp is the single most important piece of electronic gear affecting the sonic signature of the system, and tubes is a must.
