This lass was unknown to me until I saw (and ordered) the Bonneroo 2004 DVD.  She swept me off my feet.  Saw where she is releasing a CD later this month and visited her website to confirm.  Yep.  One of her fans at StereoNet.com down under, added that it will be released on vinyl tho I was unable to confirm that at her site.  So, I'll just telling you fans of hers about the news.  I think it's just her and her male accompaniest from Bonneroo.  Speaking for myself, that's just the way I would want it.

Jim,

she and David Rawlings opened for Buffalo Springfield in Oakland on June 1 & 2. Their guitar playing was spectacular and her voice is to die for. http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=9086.msg951658#msg951658

She also sings background vocals on The Decemberists The King Is Dead album. Count me as a purchaser if it comes out on vinyl.

Hi, Laura.  There is still a Buffalo Springfield?  Well, good.  I've been meaning to sample The Decemberists for awhile and will be in short order.  I know Ruby Mae is a fan of Gillian Welsh but haven't seen her around in awhile.

an all time fave. instead of singing songs about loving jesus and mom's apple pie, a bluegrass girl that sings about heroin addicts and rapists. DO NOT MISS any chance to see her live, it will change your life. great american roots music. oh P.S. she's on tour right now. i'm out of town that weekend, makes me want to cry.

Jim,

last October Neil, Stephen and Richie got together for the first time since 1968 to play at Neil Young's Bridge School benefit concert outside SFO. Rick Rosas and Joe Vitale played bass and drums in place of the departed Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin. Word is they had so much fun they decided to play Bonneroo this year and scheduled a few CA dates to warm up for Bonneroo. They are planning a more extensive tour this fall. They sure made some great music together way back then. Gillian Welch opening for them was an added treat.

I miss sharing new music with her. Len Dreyer told me she is posting music on Facebook. Since I don't do Facebook I've kinda lost touch with her.

Saw the show at Santa Barbara Bowl, but I knew about Gillian before then.  She has a new release due out 6/28/11 titled The Harrow and the Harvest

Gillian & David can also be found backing up Ryan Adams on his first solo record. Highly recommended.

Thanks Mike. I did not know that. I have the record, but never paid attention to who was singing and playing with Ryan.

That's David and Ryan arguing about Morrissey on track one.
