pc audio?

pc audio?

just got a laptop, can i use a mini to rca adapter and using the headphone jack on the laptop to connect it to my preamp for music until i look into usb dacs?

Yes. The headphone output can drive low impedance headphones and is also designed to drive high impedance loads like desktop speakers. If it is not loud enough your preamp can add some gain.  Experiment with the PC volume level until you find the best sounding volume level for the load. You might like less gain from laptop to lower its distortion and crank in higher quality gain from your preamp to get loud enough.

I recently made a similar change to my system. I went with a USB-to-SPDIF adapter into my DAC and that's worked out great.

I can't imagine ever going back to a physical CD player...computer based audio is so much more convenient.
