digital out DVD into Bda-1
« on: 19 Jun 2011, 04:53 pm »
Hi All,

Experimenting with the new BDP BDA combo I have a question: my dvd-player is digitally connected to the BDA coax and an analog connection to bp26. Cd and sa-cd play fine digitally, dvd no sound, other then analog. I have no audio deembedder.

I tried to connect the digital out of the TV to the BDa and that works fine, it being fed through a hdmi from the dvd player.

Am I now getting the same audio stereo-channel? sounds fine I must say.

Thanks,
Marius

Not sure of your question.

With your dvd player you have to change the audio output settings. Dolby to PCM, dts to PCM, change output from 16bit to 24bit. And from hdmi output to PCM.

The input selector on pre-amp should be the same as cd, but may have to switch to dvd depending on dvd codec down converted.

Aha, tried that before, didn't work, did it again just now and voila, sound in beautiful stereo. Got a Lipsync problem now, but that can be adjusted....

My question stands: is this the same digital stream compared to dvd-hdmi out into hdmi-tvset and then tv-digital out into BDa1?

The other half of my question: SACD has nog digital out seems to be industry-determined: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=82217.0
too bad, I wanted to feed the hires SACD bitstream into my BDA1.

Thanks,
Marius

Marius - from what I have been able to find out the SACD bitstream is equal in resolution to a 88.2 PCM bitstream.

I interpreted he's playing the cd layer of sa-cd. Unless he's using a player that converts sa-cd to PCM, which he doesn't say. Sa-cd as far as I know only outputs in analog? 8)

I'm playing the Marantz DV 9600. Sacd format supported, no conversion to cd format. Tried that btw, but why should I having the BCD1...

sacd is not putout through the digital out of the Marantz. I read elsewhere on Audiocircle that a audio-deembedder is necessary for that.
DVD audio converted to pcm is alright now. Sounds glorious through the BDA1

thanks,
Marius

That's correct about the de-embedder.  I use it with an Oppo BDP-83 to get 88.2kHz PCM from SACD.  I use a DV9600 as a CD transport only with the BDA-1.  For laughs, I have the analog outs of the DV9600 going into an old Carver Sonic Hologram generator that I'll use a couple of times a year.

Hi Phil,

Indeed. I was referring to your posts. Didn't realize you'd be watching this one too.
Thanks,
Marius
