Baffles/wings for Magnepan 3.6's
« on: 14 Jun 2011, 10:15 pm »
Any general tips for adding baffles/wings to my Magnepan 3.6's? I have done some experimentation on my own, so far they lowered the bass and increased its impact, it also improved the center image. Making my center channel speaker not needed for now. Currently have them on the inside only, looking to change that in a couple of days. Also they are folded back at an angle due to the rooms width.

Thanks,

Troy

They will significantly change the frequency response, meaning you really should change the crossovers.

Adding a wing has been noted to increase the bass.
Some folks with Mye stands added a panel to one side in the triangle of the Mye Stand brace and reported big increases in the bass.
IMO the flap should only be on the non tweeter side for best results. As you have it or attached via the screws holding the wood on the bass side. i have thought about a small extension on the bass side also. Mine would be a curved flap. small at top and bottom with a buldge in the middle... At least that is what i am thinking. i would like something i could adjust on the fly until i decide just how much is just right for most music.
I do not think one needs to worry about the crossover.
I own 3.6s

I don't know about wings but if I had Magnepans I'd build some OB H -frames to give them some low end.
