Bryston BDP-1
« on: 13 Jun 2011, 03:25 pm »
I just got mine last week and have to say how great it is with the supplied tunes. Now I have to get familiar with the world of downloads...

On the downside, I was disappointed that it doesn't cosmetically match my BDA-1. It has different buttons, chamfered sides and the power LED works differently. Same thing happened when I bought more SST2 power amps, a while back.

I wish Bryston would stop changing the cosmetics. Itis a real pain. I don't have the cash to buy everything at the same time....rant over. :nono:

The buttons on the original DAC's are smaller than the current ones.  The BDP-1 had to use larger buttons so the new DAC's have the same size buttons so they match.

This meant in the most positive sense: don't look a good DAC in the mouth and just  count your buttons...:~)

Well it's really a matter of change the buttons on the DAC's or not building BDP's.

Oh, it would bug me too - I was just trying to be positive..  I think many audiophiles have some-level of heightened OCD....

It is a terrible waste of a lovely blue LED that it only ever gets to shine red on the BDP and never fulfill its potential - and we all know components sound better with a blue LED showing

James,

It was nice to see your response in the manufacturers' comments section of the July issue of "Stereophile". Also it was good to see the BDP-1 advertisement on page 38.

Good job.

Has anyone compared this to a Logitech Touch?  The price difference is almost 1900 and it seems like the BDP-1 has less functionality since I can only grab music from a USB input so I would expect the digital output stream to be far superior to the Touch.  I searched for comparisons but came up empty.

That would be a great comparison as I have a Touch and would like to purchase a BDP-1.
