Thanks again to everyone for your replies.  Color (silver vs black) is, of course, a personal preference.  I was specifically wondering about amount of black vs silver that gets sold.. and whether silver might be difficult to resell in the future.   Most of the equipment on Ebay is black.

Well, legitimate concern. I would say observe the used market and see how things transpire. But ultimately, you have to be happy. Bryston has decent resale value regardless.

Greetings all.  Starting with a S/H BDA-1 I picked up in silver, I then went with a silver S/H B100SST.  I'm on the fence about black vs silver.

From those who have bought and sold Bryston stuff, is it easier to resell black Bryston gear?  Is there much of a market for silver?  I'd especially love to hear from any dealers on the forums.

Thanks.

I bought both my (black) Bryston amps (6BSST and 14BSST) used about 7 years ago.  I sold my (black) BCD-1 CD player a bit over a year ago and bought a (lightly - 3 week old) used (black) BDA-1 DAC about the same time.  I also bought a used (black) 3BST for the bedroom system in the last year and several years back (probably 9-10), I sold a 4BST and power pacs in black.

Bryston provides a great warranty and great service.  I don't think one color or the other will leave you without buyers for the product.  Get what appeals to you.

I totally think this is a matter of choice - and both look great.  I mentioned that I went for silver but that was mainly because I'm already black with my HT and thought I'd change it up.

As far as the used market goes - I had been looking for silver and choices are rare vs. black.

I'm wondering if Bryston (James) has some stats on their black vs. silver sales on the C-Series specifically?  At least in

Hmmm - this has got me thinking.  Wouldn't it be interesting if 1yr in say every 5yrs (perhaps an anniversary edition) - there were a couple other choices in finishes - even if restricted to say just a few of the more expensive models.  Say:

(machined) black chrome
(machined) silver chrome

Any takers??

I would like to see a black cherry in that finish bryston uses. Or a Gold.

The black cherry would be nice in a 14B with black a black pre/mps and bda bdp.. The gold would be nice too in a 14B with a silver pre/mps and bda/bdp.

I wish they would start offering more colors.

Different colours are a real serious problem from batch to batch getting consistancy,

Just make the option avail on your 2ch power and people would never know. They would never know the difference with the entire set because they can't get the colors in the entire line.

That is a really true statement.  Many moons ago a store manager showed me an amp, preamp and tuner from an entry level high end brand in the back room.  They were all slightly different colors of charcoal gray and probably from the brand, were made in different places.

I do like the idea of a special edition with some form of upgrade for a particular date.  It is good for sales and good for resale too being of limited edition.

Hi werd,

The problem persists from batch to batch so if you try and match an amplifier from batch A to an amplifier from batch B - good luck.

Exactly thats what i mean and would expect that. The idea here is 2ch amps don't get in the same system typically. So the colors can't be compared to the pre amps and digital components. See what i mean, so who cares if they are slight off.

I recall seeing a gold plated C series faceplate in the corner of James' office... (Pretty sure it was plated -- I don't think he'd leave it lying around if it was solid :-) )

It looked very bling. Perhaps they would do a 35 (or is it coming up on 40?) year anniversary edition of the 4B with a gold faceplate :-)

I much prefer the aluminum finish on my audio equipment, especially on my Beasties when they have a wavering candlelight reflecting off of their large faceplates in a dim room.

Be well…

I picked silver for all my Bryston electronics because it suits my overall decor better and also it added a little sophistication to its look - the cool factor  8)
