Guys, last week I waited too late to ask for advice on good LP stores in the Detroit area; I was out of time when Orthobiz and others chimed in.

Next week I'll be working in Fontana, California for 4 days.    Any good LP sources in that area?  Or within 30 miles or so?

Thanks, all!

Well, at 55 miles away is Amoeba Records. Further than your 30 mile restriction, but well worth the trip.

This is a warehouse size store with very large vinyl sections.

Closer is Rhino Records in Claremont. Probably about 20 miles. Not anywhere as big, but a great store. I can't remember how big their vinyl selection is, but lets just say Amoeba's vinyl selection is larger than the entire Rhino store.

The reason I like Rhino so much is they have a very good selection of progressive music CD's, so if I want something right away, I can get it the same day, as opposed to having to order it online.

They also have a sister store in Riverside called The Mad Platter. Never been there. Have no idea what it is like.

I can do 55 miles!  How organized are they?  Maybe I'll hit them on the way from the airport to the jobsite.    Thanks!  :thumb:

Pretty organized.

They have separate sections for various genres, then alphabetized withing each genre.

There are also separate sections for the best selling artists within each genre.

Check out Record Collector News http://www.recordcollectornews.com/, a SoCal vinyl mag that you can read on-line.

Jim Kaplan does a great job putting together fun, interesting music articles while promoting local vinyl shops.  There's a map of SoCal vinyl shops in the middle of the magazine that will keep you very busy while you're here.

Don't forget to go upstairs to check out their great selection of new and used DVD's of all genres.

Amoeba has the best vinyl selection in Los Angeles, it is worth the drive if you swing it. If not, just do a google search for record shops in the cities that are going to be close to you. There are still lot's of great small shops around town too.

Thanks guys!  Amoeba is fantastic!  Very well organized, huge selection, friendly staff, lot of clean vinyl, and reasonable prices.  I picked up 5 CDs and double that in LPs for about $65.

If I have time I'll hunt down some other shops.

Thanks again, guys!

Definitely try Rhino in Clairmont.
