Clarinet Transformer grounding
« on: 4 Jun 2011, 01:00 am »
I have finally gotten around to trying all of the hum reducing tricks discussed here on this forum on my Clarinet. The last thing I want to try is to ground the power transformer to the chassis. My question is where do you attach the wire to the transformer? The only points available with screws are the screws holding the transformer bells and the screws attaching the transformer to the chassis. Assuming wherever it goes, some paint will have to be scraped off to get to bare metal?

Thanks.

If you look at the lower left corner of the back bell of the transformer, there is a grounding lug internal connected to a wire, you may have to look up the color of the wire on the Hammond schematic.  You should be able to see the side of the grounding lug between the bell and laminations.  Check this connection.

Also note, you should have continuity between the grounding lug on the back of the Clarinet and the laminates of the transformer.

Which RCA jacks are you using, the standard or optional ones?  If using the optional ones be careful of the input wire placement in the case.  Anything close to the incoming AC will cause a hum.
