Well well well. It's a bird it's a plane no its Bryston the Super Hero. From CDP to 28Bs we were taken away to the recording event.
First off a special thanks James Tanner, Chris Russel and the Engineering staff at Bryston. Chris coming down and presenting the wares with passion and professionalism. The Engineers pat yourselfs on th back , very well done. James for being James.
So what does a all Bryston system sound like. SS,? nope, tubey ? nope. REAL as real can be for a reproduced sound. With Carver amazing speakers wonderfull. Tone, weight, slam, detail, grace, dead quite background with a natural ease.
When we inserted the ML-1 References from Aussie land goose bumps I tell ya. Even with limited bass down to 48hz or so it was not an issue. At first listen maybe but that was soon forgotten. The midrange and top end performance will end the chase for most. A must hear with Bryston. www.lenehanaudio.com.au
Being now a SET fan having used SS, tubes, hybrids I admit this demo challenged my preference. My nervosa is perking now James. There is really something to using a single Manf. system. Especially yours. :thumb:
A lifetime guarantee, tone with conviction, what else could one want. Kudos. Photos to follow.

We used some challenging CDs for the demo. Our sibilance and mid range barometer is Jacintha" Here's to Ben" on Fim XRCD. A close miked affair that not all sytems can handle. Her voice was delivered with all the sensuous intimate cues that make you want to get up and kiss her. The sibilance was delivered naturally with no added zip. Very nice indeed.
For bass, soundstage, air, dynamics and sheer goosebumps RR-107 Virgil fox "The Bach Gamet" shook the house pushed some serious air. RR -906 Tutti track one " Dance of the Tumblers" awed all with its dynamics and slam. Oh my! RR-49 Testament track 5 "Allelujah" with the Turtle Creek Choir was huge, deep while able to hear individual voices in the massive Choir. Soundstaging was first class. DMP Big Band " Take the A Train" just blew us away, the horns had tone as well bite as in real life. Amazing.

PRAt anyone ? In spades the toes are a tapping.  We threw it all at this system. The system handled it all. You get what you put in. What more can one ask.

Hi Guys

I was just down at the maker of the Lenehan ML1's yesterday (today your time) and he is really chuffed how well his speaker was received at the meet with the Bryston gear.  He knows that gear well and really couldn't think of any better gear to show his speakers off with - especially since the CEO was there to ensure everything went well.  Of course a big thanks to everyone involved in bringing it off - with a special thanks to Chris (Lonewolf) in compiling the music to show the ML1's off and lugging the ML1's over.  As people probably noticed, even though they are small, they weigh a bomb - that's because they are lined with steel.

Rollo told me people really liked them but would have preferred some deeper bass - which is understandable - but otherwise thought the ML1's were a match made in heaven with the Bryston gear.

I am sure there are some technical reasons for the synergy, and while I am a fairly technically literate guy I am certainly not an engineer or anything like that - just an enthusiast.  Of course good engineering etc will play a big part - and Mike (the maker of ML1's) has some propriety stuff in there such as a port alignment which produces the good bass for a speaker that size, but the real difference to other manufacturers is he uses Duelund VSF Copper capacitors in the crossover.  The drivers, while good, are not the last word in drivers, but what Mike has found is that they are not the most important thing - the crossover is, which is why he spends a fortune using Duelund capactors which are hellishly expensive.  I heard a comparison on ML1's playing Patty Smith with speakers using Mundorf Silver In Oil and ones with Duelunds.  Her voice sounded deep and electrifying with the Mundorfs - but switch over to the Duelunds and the voice is not as low and electrifying and you may initally think its not as good as the Mundorfs.  But switch back and you realize the Mundorfs are colored and there is no turning back - Duleunds are the way to go.

These are some of the cheapest speakers in the world to use Duelunds (they are usually found in speakers costing something like $100K) but unfortunately do add substantially to the price.  As a customer I don't like this and only fork out the dosh because of what I have heard.  Of course cheaper models are available with Erse and Mundorf Silver In Oil but unfortunately don't sound as good - sigh.

Anyway it seems Bryston gear is a good match for stuff using Duelunds - which is hardly surprising really - both are very transparent - and coupled together - well I think people heard the results.

Again thanks to Bryston for having their wonderful amps avialable to use with the ML1's I sent over.

Thanks
Bill

The 28Bs are great amps.

Where were ya ? We thought you would attend this one. We missed you as well as the other Ravers. Anyway do not know what speakers you are using these days however for your size room the ML-1s just might fit like a glove. Ml-2s as well. Synergy up the ying yang. Try them.

Thanks Charles.  I missed a good audio meeting for sure.

I heard those ML speakers are great sounding.

However, I am currently using a pair of PMC OB1i speakers with Bryston 7Bsst monos.  I love full-range  sounding speakers.   :thumb:

Cheers!

Then the ML3's may do it for you - they are flat to 25hz.  I will do my best to get a pair out to you guys.  Trouble is they, like all ML's, are lined with steel and weigh 80kg each which makes them hard to transport.  But evidently shipping them by sea is significantly cheaper although it takes longer.  Anyway I am sure something can be worked out so you and others can hear them.

My personal ML1's will be be over at Chris's (Lonewolfny) for quite a while now so if you contact Chris I am sure something can be worked out to hear them.  They are being upgraded to ML2's and as soon as they are built will be swapped over.  The ML2's are not actually far off the ML3's - they are flat to 30hz instead of 25hz.  I was down at Lenehan Audio Friday listening to the very first production pair with the guy that is buying them.  He had a torture suite of disks and it negotiated them effortlessly.  But what was probably the most interesting thing was the difference stands made but I think I will do a separate post about that on Audionervosa.

Thanks
Bill

Thanks Bill.  Does it come with a matching center channel?  I am sure it can be worked out.  I just don't see myself upgrading.

Believe it or not the maker Mike Lenehan doesn't believe in them - his speakers image so well he doesn't think its needed.  But he will build you one if you want.

Doesn't matter if you want to get new gear or not.  It's simply a fun speaker to hear.  Mike does stuff no other maker does such as lining his cabinets with steel and using Duelunds.  He actually believes drivers are of only of minor importance and the crossover and cabinet makes a much bigger difference.  He doesn't use expensive exotic drivers - good stuff - but not the last word.  When he explained his philosophies to me I thought no - it couldn't be right.  I mean I had heard some people claim you can't even hear differences in capacitors so whats this thing on spending a fortune on Duelunds and not on better drivers.  But from my experience he is spot on.  That's what makes the speakers so much fun - they challenge conventional wisdom.

That's the reason I sent my stuff over - for a bit of fun and the great discussions I had with Chris as well as reading about the Raves you guys had.  I am now retired with a bit of time on my hands and some retirement money to indulge my passion.

Thanks
Bill
