Firewire 800 DAC's
« on: 28 May 2011, 11:19 pm »
Anybody know of and can recommend a very good DAC that has a Firewire 800 input? The ones that come to mind are the dCS(very expensive), Weiss(expensive) and Apogee. Any others out there?

Thanks!

Alex

I just sold my Weiss DAC2, and had a wonderful Metric Halo LIO-8 for some time, too.  Both are fw.  Others include Prism Orpheus and Steinberg MR816x (a real find at $600).

Thanks Ted! I'll check those out. I've read that the Weiss is a wonderful DAC. What was your experience?

Loved it.  It was my first real hi-end computer-based DAC after leaving the streaming world of the Modwright modded Transporter, and I found it to be musical, organic, natural sounding.  As a typical audiophile I kept looking for a replacement, just cuz!   :o  I recently bought the Antelope Gold with Voltikus power supply, and it has slightly more resolution, is a bit more balanced, and goes to 24/384k.  Is it THAT much better than the Weiss?  No.  It does play in the Linux music server world, though, which is what I'm dabbling in right now.
