Hi James,

We've organized a test run. I'll let you know immediately. Hope somewhere this week.
Btw, you ought to try the Elgar Oratorios in the Chandos. beautiful recordings in every technical and musical aspect. Great sub test also, I worked out the settings of the 10B-sub crossover with the recording of the Dream of Gerontius.

Marius

Hi Marius,

We have tried a few Gapless tests and the BDP-1 seems fine with it as the others above have mentioned but I do not have any of the Chandos USB's to try.

Hi James,

Today we had our testrun. I am glad to be able to confirm gapless-playback. Another problem occurred though, and of a very serious kind: playing the Chandos USB 0006, Elgar Oratoria, the BDP played fine up to track 9 but then jumped to a track coded CD2 track 9, instead of cd1 track 10 (of 32). We tested all the different recordings on the USB (6 of them), with my macbook and again over to the BDP, but it mixes it up in a still not completely analyzed way. The tracks are numbered differently, some have a CDnr in front of the track number some don't, but when we cross-checked on the MAC using Itunes, Audirvana, and Decibel they all played the USB in the correct order. My Marantz Na7004 does also, albeit with gaps....

My dealer and importer agreed to have a rerun, after a software-update, and they will contact you also, but I thought it best to let you know already.

Hope you can work it out with them. Maybe try the USb yourself to fully understand what I mean.

Greetings,
Marius

Hi Marius,

Thanks for the report - where can I get a copy of the USB?

http://www.chandos.net/details06.asp?CNumber=CHUSB%200006

I tested it with Dream of Gerontius. Funny thing was that playing it with Itunes (flac imported) and Audirvana (flac directly) everything is marked CD 1, but the original recordings consisted of 2 cd's, which are apparently read by the BDP somehow..

Greets,

It sound like the problem is inconsistent numbering of the file names of the tracks on those USB drives.  The BDP-1 will play the tracks within a folder in numerical/alphabetical order of the track names, i.e. 01,02,03,04,etc.  If there is no zero in front of the track name and there are for example 12 tracks it will play 1,10,11,12,2,3,4,etc.  Some of the tracks but not all being identified by CD1 and CD2 would cause the same issue.  You can fix it by changing each track filename to start with the numerical order that you want it to play.

Well, of course that crossed my mind too, but then again why would all the other software players and my Marantz play the right order?
What I don't like about it is having to make everything right for the BDP, and that that would be the way to be playing in the future. I just want to put in a source, like a cd, now a factory thumbdrive, and play along. Not having to edit it as to make the BDP understand it.

Hi Tony, James,

Found this analysis on the very nice website of The well-tempered computer by Vincent Kars: http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/TG/2_Classical.html
suppose thats a challenge to solve? Either through hardware or software? (software I mean the recordings) BDP-1 surely isn't designed for "pop-music" alone.

did you try to play the tracks on your pc/mac? I did and did not have any re-ordering problem on my Mac using 3 different software audio-players. Hope Bryston figures this problem out asap. James is working on it.

greetings,
Marius

I can not download HD Tracks in Canada. Any CD's you rip are fine - correct? It is just the HD downloads and only on Bryston MAX - MINI is OK and mpod and iPad are ok as well minion and gnome?

Is the problem the meta-data?
Does it use the track number from there to sort?
I've been changing "1" to "01" etc
Also if you have two disks in a folder, you'll have two track 1's

No such things.I'm very carefully with files and folders.I tried and change from 01 to 1 and same problem. Can't find the reason.Minion is the best at this.No problem at all.
