The large input caps on my Melos SHA Gold Reference preamp are sitting in a substance that looks like wax. Can anyone identify what this substance is and how to remove it without damaging the board?

Nikko,
It's very likely hot melt glue. You can soften and remove it with a heat gun. Of course you don't want to get anything else too hot but with care you should be able to remove it.
Of course if it's not hot glue, all bets are off.

Looks like it's some kind of thermal adhesive, possibly Loctite. There must be some kind of solvent to remove it. Anyone know of a solvent to remove this stuff without damaging the PCB?
