According to the registrar, Network Solutions, as of May 20, 2011 at 01:05:55 EDT, Audiogon.com and Audiogon.net are not available.  The .info, .org, .ca, .biz, .us, .mobi, .me, .tv, .ws and .cc domains are available for purchase.

Ok, all jokes aside...

From either my home or my workplace, www.audiogon.com has been either unreachable or disfunctional since yesterday morning.

Apparently it depends on where you are located. The censors folks who run that place seem to forget to renew their domain every year. When they finally do it, some DNS servers take longer than others to update their routing tables.

Here is what I get using nslookup,

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:   www.audiogon.com
Address: 209.62.105.19

Unfortunately if you surf to that number, you won't get a chance to buy some magic cables.

Works fine for me (IE9 and Firefox 3.6).  Try deleting temporary Internet files and cookies.

<sigh> It's not an operator error. It's not a browser error. It is a DNS error.

Come on, if you don't know what's going on, don't go offering useless advice. You will just waste people's time.

It's just a good idea to help people by helping them to avoid wasting their time with your thoughtless advice. I meant no personal animosity towards you, I'm sure you are a very nice guy but you just don't have a clue about what DNS issues are about.

I'm sure you are a very nice guy but you just don't have a clue about what DNS issues are about.

And if you had a clue about DNS issues, you would have simply used one of many public DNS servers such as Google's (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) until your ISP's DNS servers had been updated.

And if you had a clue about domain registration, well, you wouldn't have started this topic in the first place.

So one could look at it as you not wasting our time.

I notice that you are actually offering completely different advice the second time around, while neglecting to mention that your initial advice was a complete waste of time for anyone that tried it. Fortunately your new and improved remedy appears to no longer be required, as it seems that the correct DNS entry for audiogon.com has now propagated even into the internet domains under the umbrella of Time-Warner. If Time-Warner has the right number, everybody else must have it by now as well.  :|

It's amazing that the people that run audiogon.com could let this happen twice in two years. Audiophiles have bought and sold items on audiogon, posted on the forums, etc. Some of them might have even imagined that that site is safe, etc. Unfortunately, when they screw up over there you have to find out about it off-site, because for some mysterious reason there is no mention of the problems that they had (I doubt we could get this thread going over there past the censors). So if you ever need to find out what is wrong with audiogon, you'll have to read about it elsewhere.

Bottom line, audiogon is safe and reliable, except when it isn't, but you will not find that out from them. I knew they had ethical issues (e.g. censorship) but I did not realize that they were this inadequate at managing the most elementary aspects of maintaining a web site. Since they offer no guarantees on your purchases or sales, it makes you wonder why they grab 4% of all the sales there, most of us would pay the mortgage and quite a bit more with that kind of money. So much income and so little competence comes to a scary result when considering that the transactions there amount to real money for many of us...

I had a weird experience yesterday or the day before when I tried to go to audiogon via my saved link and I got what appeared to be the type of website you get when you have a domain name registered but no active web site/server.

I went back a few hours later and all was well.... so something was up with the site (or down in this case!!!)
