OT, but it seems that perhaps Caravanserai is coming out on a Mobile Fidelity SACD, the release has been changed from just a MoFi CD. I can't recommend this album highly enough, especially as an SACD but seems the Japanese one that I got is OOP and going for big bucks. I also highly recommend the JSACD of Return to Forever Romantic Warrior.

Caranvanserai is the album that gave us Journey, but don't hold that against it...

To further stray from the topic,  :thumb: yes, this little bit of rock history is interesting. Journey was a very different band before Steve Perry started to call the tunes, with several members of Santana's entourage getting together to form the band (with particular emphasis on giving the lead guitar a chance to be played by someone other than Carlos). "Infinity" (Perry's first with them) is another great album to test your amp! I caught their show at Long Beach when they were promoting that album and Perry was only prominent on about a third of the set. After that album, the band went into more of a pop direction and their record sales went up, up, up while their musical content went... well, as I said, in a different direction. The thing is, "Infinity" already had plenty of sales, but I suppose the goal of better sales trumped the goal of more challenging music. :(

Here is the story as I understand it.

Santana had some hits with Black Magic Woman, Oye Coma Va etc. About the time of Caravanserai Carlos started to hang around with John Mclaughlin who was like "Carlos, Miles Davis is THE MAN!"

He was right, you know.

So Carlos is diggin on Miles and getting all down with his Scientology self while Rolle and Perry were like "Man, we want some hits and stuff"

The fact that there are only like three tracks with vocals on Caranvanserai was the writing on the wall.

Journey went on to make the hits, Carlos went on to make MUSIC.

:)

Caravanserai is like no other Santana album, probably my favorite. If in fact the MoFi SACD is the real thing and gets released I can't recommend it highly enough.

Um, back to sort of on topic, a great recording to check out a system.

I lean towards preamp first then amp. To me the detail, PRAT, etc is delivered to the amp by the preamp. Need I say more? 8)

In your case try to audition some of your choices.  Used market may help to
extend your budget.

AVA used equipment includes a satisfaction guarantee and a one year parts and labor warranty.  You may want to consider adjusting your price to compensate for those comparison shopping:D

Different boards have different customs but where I come from it's rude to hi-jack someones thread to sell your own wares. :nono:

I don't mind the hijacking to let people know about good used AVA equipment.  Furren stuff, thats another matter.

Sorry Devil Doc and Frank if I stepped on toes with my exuberance. I did hope DD would consider my pre if looking to lower the cost of the upcoming decision.

I stand by my opinion that the preamp would be the first I would change/upgrade, as it passes the signal to the amp. Preamp changes, such as less noise, more detail, air and stage will be more appreciable in the front end. Then when the amp arrives you can easily notice it's grip on the overall soundscape. :thumb:
