Hi james,

I have been there yesterday and I have to admit that it was a quite impressive setup. Each bass module of the BB5s had its own 7B SST², i.e. a total 5 amps for the front basses, and each tweeter/midrange on the LCR had its own channel of a 4b SST².  In the back, it was a pair of MB2s, just as you mentioned.

Having had no direct comparison, it was was hard to tell how good the SP-3 actually sounds, but the overall experience was pretty good - and this is saying something for me being from a region where not being yelled at is considered being enough of praise...  :wink:

On of the sources, however did the decoding itself, so the SP-3 showed that it received a PCM signal, not the "original" DTS HD MA or TrueHD stream. But this shouldn't affect the Bryston sound which is supposed to mainly come from the analog side anyway...

I also tried to get some more info on the trade-in terms from Brian but he did give the same standard answer as you always give, i.e. that you are thinking about the terms and nothing has been decided. I also had the impression that he didn't want to set the hopes too high... I don't know how to interpret this, though.  :?

Thanks for the feedback Marcus - this is the first time the SP3 has been used in battle and I have heard from a number of people now that all went well - phew :D

...i know that this is the Bryston forum but i just want to share some pics of some really nice gear with you guys. a lot of exhibitors had turntables for their demos as well :green:.


















...and the Soulution SACD player sells for 47.000 Euros :o

i'll better stay with Bryston :icon_lol:

peiowei...that's what i always say when i cannot describe something :thumb:. the MBL was amazing! drums were unbelievable CLEAR at any volume. they also had smaller ones there:

what i liked was the stereo image. both speakers were great in dong so! if maximum power is not needed the white ones are truly speakers to die for.

...i did not like them. yes, they are big. and yes, they look impressive. but size is not everything that counts. i spent there almost an hour to find out what i didn't like. after all i can say that the stereo image was almost ok BUT the mids were not what i expected. vocals were like the artist was singing through his own nose. sorry.

Hi Al

Yes it is hard not to get caught up in the aesthetics of the gear. I think a show with no visuals is in order. We will call it the Double Blind Audio show and all rooms will be pitch black.  :D

i believe they had some tube amps to power the speakers.

maybe it's that i just don't really like horns...but the sound was somewhat "more" than the other big horns (we were already talking about 'em). but i want to say that they sounded neutral. hmmmm... :scratch:
the big black speaker was made in 1928 :o.

The D amps are designed for Zone application so being a high end show I expect they felt it would not be applicable.
