I have limited experience with uber CD players outside of Arcam.  I replaced an Arcam FMJ CD17 with a Yamaha DVD-S2700 and I feel that the Yamaha is better in every way.  It is surprising how good it is!  It was not a "Big Box" Yamaha product though.  Then again maybe the .5B sitting on it helps the sound :P!

Yep, I have my BP6 sitting on top of my Onkyo DX-7555 cd player as well.
