I've had a Roku XR for a year or so now that I use for streaming netflix and my photos via facebook. I've had no problems. This seems to be more of a commodity than a high end device. Both picture and sound are about the same as I get from an analogur TV channel.

Roku is beyond awesome. We've been using the same one for 2+ years. I was worried for a bit that it would be your typical made from china get rich quick no service and bail device, but they have risen to the challenge:

1. consistent updates and new features.

2. We can do search in our Netflix account right on the television ( I don't know if other devices can do that but it's pretty awesome). No need to run to PC to add stuff to streaming queue.

3. Great UI - doesn't look cheap and navigation is easy. My GF loves, loves, loves the Roku cause it's so easy to use.

4. Picture quality is DVD quality or higher for the most part: The first year or so there were occasional stops and starts and compression quality would vary. This was due just as much to the connection as the netflix. After that, it's been near perfect every time now that we have very fast cable connection except I don't like Starz movies, they cheap out on compression quality.

5. More and more channels added all the time: we don't really play around with the other channels. Seems like there are more and more all the time. We just stick to netflix but it's cool to see all the different ones available. a lot you have to pay for though.

6. Customer service: they have a very active forum and very very good customer service.

Mind you we are still using the original and it's been rock solid the whole time. Roku gets my highest reccomendation. Kudos to them.

I had one for three weeks. Worked fine for two and then went kaput. After about 10 hours wasted talking to people in India, I sent it back. Maybe it's ok and I just got a defective unit. While it worked it was great, but then...

Yup, I had one too because of my connection problems on my Samsung.
I took back the Samsung "Link Stick" and is all fine now. It happened to be an open package when I got the TV in Dec. so someone else probably returned it.

I had the Roku for one day during this. It would not validate itself with the Roku server no matter how many times it was re-set. WTF I don't need this! I call customer support where ever they are and the guy screwed with all my router settings to the point I lost my PC internet. I had to reset it to factory and use my backup of the original settings. WTF again !
Hell, I  know more about networking than those bozo's !!!!!!

But, if you do not have a way to connect to the internet your stuck with making it work.

Sorry to sound a bit derogatory but that is what happened here.  YMMV

I have a Roku and a Sony LED TV with internet connectivity.  I prefer using the Roku and have had no problems.

I LOVE my little Roku box. I have yet to encounter a single problem. I love the fact that if I want to go over to a friend's house for a movie, I can just take the thing with me, HDMI it to her display, log on to her wireless, and all of a sudden I have thousands and thousands of movies and tv shows available for us to watch - including my entire netflix queue. Best $60 I've spent in a while.  :thumb:

I just got a Roku XDlS and it work excellently with the Sony Bravia streaming Nextflix. One thing I do not like is the HD movies quality got lost when watching movies on Friday and Saturday nights I guess most people are watching movies at the same time.
