RIP warning
« on: 3 May 2011, 09:25 pm »
I'm using dbpoweramp to rip all my cd's.  So far, it's doing a great job.  Most discs rip without problems, some have errors and need to be cleaned and then re-ripped, and a few songs have errors and can't be cleaned or ripped.  Luckily, any song I can't rip, I have another copy of.

Anyway, the reason for this post - when bdpoweramp reads your disc to rip, it displays all the metadata it's going use - album art, artist name, song titles, etc.  It is very important that you carefully check these before ripping.  Once ripped, you can't change it.  If you want to change a song title, for example, you'll need to rerip the disc.  Simply changing the name of the FLAC file won't do it.  For example, bdpoweramp has ripped Bryan Adams by showing the artist as "Bryan Adams".  Fine for most people.  However, I like to store my music last name first - "Adams, Bryan".  I didn't notice this until after I'd ripped about 100 discs.  So I went back and renamed all the folders and song titles so they had last name first.  Still, the BDP sorts by "Bryan Adams".  Seems that bdpoweramp must imbed metadata into each song.  This can't be edited.  So, I need to go back an re-rip a bunch of discs so that they list last names first.  Anyway, thought I'd warn others before they make the same mistake.

I use Media Monkey to edit the meta data after ripping with dbpoweramp (if I need to). What's nice is tha you can edit the data while the drive is connected to the BDP-1.

Agreed, it does the job well.  Another nice piece of code is mp3tag -> http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

So... the main point is that you are not doomed and there is software available to help you on your journey.
