New Audio Mirror amps

Seems good news I feel...
The $3,449pair 6C33 45W SEP is no more, the substitute now has 30 conservative Watts for long tube life and price is just 1,875 per pair !!
This is possible?? or Iam missing something wrong in these beauties amps??
http://www.mr-cable.com/audio_mirror.htm#top%20of%20page
Finally a tube builder is using 2 power on switches(Filament/B+ or Warm-up/Operate) again, to the user heat the cathode before the hi-voltage supply, also the owner can heat new tubes for testing, before release the hi-voltage to listen music.
Also the 6C33 socket looks great, not Teflon though.

However the AudioMirror site is showing the old model still!!
http://www.audiomirror.com/amps.html
I would like any info about this new 6C33 amp...
Someone knows what is happen?? etc...
Thanks, Gustavo

OBS.> The other AudioMirror amp(6AS7) also have a new version on the same way, seems they are named ''Eargarsm Series'', no kidding.

Very interesting...

Many of the new features are what I had added to mine when I had it upgraded by a fellow AC member.

My understanding about SET amps is that most of the high cost is in the transformers.  And you have to spend lots more moolah on the transformers to squeeze a few more watts.  So I guess I could see how the price would drop so significantly.  Sounds like an awfully reasonable price for 30 SET watts!

you are missing something - that is the old model; i own a pair.  tho the transformers in mine are updated, and it makes ~40wpc.  i also had mine modded, w/ability to adjust the bias w/o having to get inside the amps.  the latest amps are auto-bias...

Would be interesting to hear my 45 Watt SET pair vs. these to hear the difference between SET and non-SET. But I will tell you one thing ... read my lips  : I will NEVER sell my 45 Watt SET pair EVER. Not an over abundance of powerful SET amps out there for under $3,500 new. Though mine are rated 45 watts, they easily drive my 87dB speakers to more than satisfying levels in my large room, when I am so inclined.

what you would be hearing is the difference between your set amps and these set amps, which are the same basic amp, yust an earlier iteration.     but yes, i agree w/you - 40-45w of set power is nice.

The Mr.Cable site say this new amp are SRPP in input stage and Single Ended Parallel at output, what looks good.
The AM site say the old amp had a BIAS trim pot between the transformers, maybe this do not match with your amp.
http://www.audiomirror.com/amps.html
Site quote> There are separate trim pots to adjust the bias to the output tubes, conveniently located on top of the chassis between the two transformers covers.
It seems there was some AudioMirror amps that had to change the transformers as related by Magnetar and others in 2002/03.
So I wonder if this problems already ended??

the mr cable site shows the old amps, not the new ones!  mine are exactly like that, and i bought them used from magnetar - the amps i own are magnetar's old amps!  and they look exactly like the amps in the mr cable guy pic - w/the eye tube.  rockadanny has a pic of the latest amp (like what's in the a-m website - no eye tube), in his foto gallery.  when i bought my amps from magnetar, (we each drove ~4 hours, to awoid shipping them), the trim pots to adjust the bias were internal, and later, i sent them to vlad to have them moved to where they are now - external between the transformer covers.  i thought the latest iterations of the 6c33c ampswere auto-bias; i guess that was only changed for the 20w 6as7 iterations...  the AN site shows the latest a-m product, that mr cable site is ancient..

gustavo, i don't know whether or not the eye tube is strictly cosmetic or not.  i believe it indicates when the circuit has warmed, but it is not necessary; you could simply wait a couple minutes after turning it to warm, to turn it fully on.  i do know that the warn-up circuit is not meant to be used as a stand-by; vlad told me specifically not to turn the amp on if the warn circuit has been on for more than a few minutes - turn off the amp for a few minutes, and start over...

these are really nice amps; i highly recommend them.  i bet the tube has a lot to do w/their sound.  in that vein, i would also recommend these, for anyone in the market for a powerful set amp - i bet these are in the same league as the a-m amps.  or better, since bill baker has played w/them.  (i am amazed these are still f/s):

Thanks for the tip. What tube are you referring the magic eye tube or the 6c33??
Do you know the brand of these AM elevated 6C33 sockets??

I've a pair of the current production model which were built with many upgraded components by Vlad - as others have noted, they're lovely amps.  I would however send out a note of caution about the teflon 6c33c sockets I specified as they gave me no end of trouble.  This tube type runs extremely hot and the pin grips expand, causing bias drift and loss of contact.  Not sure if this comment runs true of the expensive Yamamoto sockets, however I've had no further issues since replacing with NOS RCA septar sockets from Leeds Radio. Vlad reports no problems with his stock sockets.

Dear Colesey,
Thanks for your input. I was told by a tube hobbyst 6c33 fan, this socket below are very good, it use a ceramic that does not heat itself and the valve.

i was doing some research on those bill baker modded asl's - they are push-pull, not set.  perhaps these are the amps rockadanny wants to try, to compare w/his audio-mirror set's.

also, gustavo, it's the 6c33c tube's sonic attributes i was complimenting, not the eye tube!     the asl amps don't have an eye tube, anyway...

Yes, the 6c33 is a wonderful tube to listen, a special tube due the unique low impedance.

AFAIK, the magic eye tube is a clipping indication meant to be used as a warning if you are pushing the amp too hard and risking damage to your speakers.
