I know next to nothing about the band but caught them on Austin City Limits a few weeks back.  I hd the strangest reaction to a band I've had in a long time-I would go from loving them to not being able to stand them and back again in a very short time, sometimes within a single song.

One thing I didn't like about them was the "affection" they seem to have, especially the lead singer-like their music is so serious it is almost a religious ritual to perform it.

LOL That is exactly my reaction to them. I LOVE a few of their songs, but there are others that irritate me. Overall, I would say I like their older stuff more than the newer stuff (which just got too pop for my tastes)- However, I have not heard the new album.

I think they have some good songs, but for my taste they are just, as the poll says, meh.

I do think Dave Grohl is incredibly talented. I just think he's better behind the kit.

I like most of their music but it just does not sound good on my system so I don't listen very often.

Sigh...

I forgot that he is a crooked vulture.  Really good band, I agree.

Which album would you buy if you only could buy one?

Buy Skin and Bones. It's a live unplugged album and is a culmination of a lot of years of their work.

x 2.  Dave Grohl is one of the worlds best rock drummers wasting his time playing guitar and as a lead singer where his talents are only mediocre, imho.  Don't forget his pivotal drumming on The Queens of the Stone Age "Songs for the Deaf" break out album years before TCV.  Check out track 4 "A Song for the Dead" - mind blowing drumming.

+3

I *love* QOTSA.  Not just for Dave Grohl though.  It took me a while, for whatever reason, to really get into Songs for the Deaf, but that is probably my favorite now.

Them Crooked Vultures are quite good too.

Yes, I agree that Dave is a superb drummer and should stick to that.  I really don't like his voice and that is the only reason I don't own any Foo Fighters material.  QOTSA on the other hand is a favorite and yes Songs for the Deaf is probably one of their best recordings, however Rated R is my personal favorite, and def recommend it  :thumb:

I love me some Foo.

Is every song great? Heck no. But they put out a lot of songs, and many of them are very good. My personal "best of FF" collection has around 40 songs....not many artists have that many on my hard drive.
