I posted this poll after thee beers.  Sorry.  If you like Foo, vote yes.  I go back and forth, and I've only heard a couple tracks from the new record.

Dave Grohl was the most talented member of Nirvana and frankly is the only thing that makes them paletable. He should have always been their lead, however Curts ego got in the way! The Foo fighters are great if mabey a little to poppy. Listen to Darling Nikki (Prince cover)its awesome!

I saw them open for the Chili Peppers many years ago and they left after a hundred pounds of Skittles were dropped on their heads and the Chili Pepper's roadies started putting tighty whities on the drummer's cymbals.
They were okay before they left in a huff.
The previous night the Foo Fighters dropped 100 pounds of cooked pasta on the Chili Peppers so it was payback time.

I have one of their albums, I have to dig it up to find which one. I suspect it has the Sony root kit, which is why I don't play it. Just a warning if you plan on making a copy on your PC. :nono:

Just as I suspected except it's on the MediaMax CD-3 list.

Another suspicious cd is Devil's Playground by Billy Idol. Though it's not on the lists.

Anyway I believe my old computer had been compromised by either one. I was not able to completely rid the computer from the infection. It was able to cloak itself, re-write and migrate, hide in hidden files. Very nasty virus! :uzi:

Kurt's ego is not what got in the way. It was Kurt's drug abuse, and Courtney Love. Not sure what you mean in suggesting Grohl should have been their lead: Kurt wrote most of the material.

Overall I think they're a very good band.  A bit too "pop" at times for my taste, as someone else mentioned too.  I liked the "Big Me" song the first two or three times I saw the video, but I grew pretty tired of it.  Listening to the song and not thinking about the video, the song pretty much sucks IMO.  I think the video was really the only reason why people liked it.  After being bombarded by Mentos by fans night after night while they played the song live, they stopped performing it.

Haven't had the chance to pick up the new album.  One of these days.  They've never been a band that I've felt the need to run out and get the newest album.  Not that I don't like them.

And I agree with another previous statement - Grohl was not a driving force behind Nirvana.  It was always Cobain's band.  I think Grohl wrote one or two songs.  Grohl and the bassist (can't spell his name) weren't there to add much creativity, they were there to play Cobain's stuff.  I don't think it was truly a power trip, moreso I think Cobain's assembled the band and that's the way it was from day one.  I'm not a Nirvana biographer by any means, so I won't get offended if someone corrects me.

More than anything it was Cobain's mental illness. The other things you mention were just symptoms of that.

Unplugged, I think there music is incredibly soulful and, at times, absolutely spellbinding. The acoustic versions of their hits all sound better unplugged to me and the Skin and Bones live album is fantastic. That being said, I get fatigued by their amplified music rather quickly. I would be willing to pay $500 to see them live and unplugged but would probably skip their show if it were the amplified rock show.

That's interesting.  I think I'm figuring out why I like them sometimes and not others, and it may have to do with how catchy their songs are.  They have excellent tunes all well executed but I tire of them when they play in my head over and over.  Maybe the radio stations wore them out for me, I don't know.

I tend to like a few songs of theirs.  I think their version of Baker Street is quite good.  Overall though, I don't buy their albums as they tend to be too poppy for me too.  I find it a bit ironic since Grohl was such a huge metal head.

I do agree Nirvana was Kurt's band for sure, but that doesn't mean he was the most talented.  I agree Grohl brought a lot to the table with Nirvana, as much as any drummer could in support of a front man like Cobain.  You gotta realize that Nirvana was all about the studios pushing a new post-punk sound.  I'm not even sure how much Cobain had to do with it, honestly.

Which are their best albums?  I only have "the colour and the shape" so I don't feel qualified to vote in the poll.  I do like that album but I seem to play it only every 2 years or so.

I like most of their music but it just does not sound good on my system so I don't listen very often.  I am thinking about getting the new album.
