875 amplifier
« on: 16 Apr 2011, 08:20 am »
James,

the 875 HT amp has 8 channels @ 75 watts. these channels can be bridged to offer more power (for example L/C/R @ 250 watts and rearchannels @ 75 watts) depending on the setup.

now what happens with the impedance if the L/R/C channels are bridged ? will it affect the power output as the amp 'sees' a different resistance? furthermore it would be interesting to know what happens to the power output of the unbridged backchannels.

is it correct that the 875 has to handle different impedances due to the mentioned bridged/unbridged configuration ?

Hi Al

No all the isssues of current limiting into low impedances still apply to the 875 amp when in bridged mode.  The bridging option was just one of flexibility given the fact we assumed most customers would use the 875 in a Zone audio application or with higher impedance speakers (8 ohms) in a surround setup.

...so you say that to bridge the 875 is not a good idea? better to use it @ 75 watts for each channel?

Correct unless the speaker your driving is 8 ohms or higher in impedance.
