Joseph Audio RM33 LE speakers. The "LE" version is a significant upgrade over the original RM33 model (that already had numerous favorable reviews) by using the highly regarded "Pearl" tweeter. The story goes that Charlie Hansen, Founder & Designer of Ayre Acoustics, asked Jeff Joseph to build a pair using the famous Pearl tweeter and magnesium midrange from his top of the line model. It turned out so well that Jeff completed re-engineered the speaker around using these upgraded driver components and the LE Limited Edition was born.
This pair has Rosewood side panels. I would rate the cosmetic condition a 8/10. The basic black boxes look great, but the wood veneered bolt on side panels are not perfect. There is some raised grained on the wood veneer that can be felt, but only seen up close on 1 of the 4 panels. These panels are easily replaceable and JA sells them in Oak, Black, Maple or Cherry you can change to suit your decor. My price reflects this minor cosmetic issue.
I bought them in the fall of 2008 and had them sent directly to JA for a check up. Jeff provided a couple of x-over resistor updates to bring them up to current build specs and they are good as new. I took delivery in January 2009. I am the second owner. These convincingly replaced my Merlin VSM-MM speakers and I used them happily the past 2 years. I am only selling them due to a great trade deal on some Harbeth 40.1's and just too much gear sitting idle. The RM33LE's have a very desirable small footprint, but fill the room with music and are very wife friendly. They are a 3-way full range design and generate an amazing 3-D sound stage, completely leaving the speaker box. They also come with the custom Sound Anchor bases.
These are the same Joseph Audio speaker model that raised a hub-bub when it was voted #1 Best Sound at Show (2001) and beat out other designs in the $120,000 range. It was also ranked Class "A" in Stereophile for a number of years. You can find a number of positive reviews by google.
New are $11,999. I'm asking $4,999/obo. You pay actual cost of shipping and desired level of insurance. I have the original shipping boxes. I'm in Portland, Oregon. Local pick-up is no problem.
