Dodd Battery Buffer w/ HT Bypass
« on: 15 Apr 2011, 06:28 pm »
I've read the threads where Gary said that it a) would be difficult to add HT bypass to the buffer, and b) he's concerned about the zero gain aspect for watching movies. However, I would be using it with Super Vs so I'm wondering if their high sensitivity would alleviate the concern of it having no gain.

Sooooo, does anyone know if Gary HAS added a ht bypass to a buffer and the approx. cost that might entail? Also, help me understand why, in HT mode, the buffer having zero gain would matter if my pre-pro is feeding my amps w/ the buffer being basically non-existent in the circuit?

I would ask Gary these questions, but I am not going to bother him for obvious reasons. Also, I know I could go his battery preamp route (has HT bypass), but would favor going the buffer w/ ht bypass route instead...save some $ and dosn't appear that I need the gain.

Thanks!

That's a very good point! I didn't think about it enough I guess.
After a bit of thought it could be done.
I'll figure out what it would cost.

Wow! Got the man himself.

Sorry to bother you, Gary.

Yeah, if you could design it with HT bypass, I'm definitely interested. I know many are using the buffer in their 2-ch system w/ the Super Vs and the zero gain is no issue, but my Super Vs will have to share HT duties, hence the need for the bypass.

Thanks, and I hope your upcoming surgery comes quickly and is a huge success.

God bless,
Gary

Hey Gary good to see your back on the A.C.

Get plent of rest. But while your laying there dreaming, please dream about a balanced buffer with remote that will drive a 2.3K imput impedance.  :bounce:

I just happen to need one.

Hey guys,
I am working on a new buffer with HT bypass and a new fully balanced buffer.
Stand by for more to come.

TrungT,

Since Gary is laid up for a couple weeks, I just thought everyone might like to hear about any update on the HT bypass design progress. Last I heard, he had a new chassis coming in for this design. Did he get that in and was he able to put an initial design together?

Once again, no rush at all. The other thread on the buffer just has me excited about the bypass version again!  :thumb:

Trung, try to make make sure the new model has room for 4 Duelund VSFs.   Either in the chassis proper, or on the roof.    :thumb:

More likely going to be on full size chassis, so plenty room .....  :thumb:
I don't think Gary going to have a DIY kit.

Hmmmm? Really wanted DIY with the HT bypass. If he could fit that option in the existing DIY buffer that would be ideal for me. Don't think I can swing the $ for the new design...assuming that it will be as much or more than the existing buffer already assembled.

Works for me.   I'd rather have him put the next one together for me.   It would save a lot of time.      :duh:

After listening to mine for a few days, what I really want is a fully balanced, 7.1 version.  I really want to listen to my high rez multichannel tracks, but the sound through the buffer is SOOO much better....      :o

Trung, think Mr. Dodd can fix up one of those when he is feeling better?

You have to ask him that.
Just let hope Gary get through the next couple week first.  :thumb:
Thanks for everyone well wishes.
