Cartridge for Rega 25
« on: 13 Apr 2011, 02:42 am »
I have a Rega 25 with the 600 arm and a shure  Type V xmr cartridge.  I don't know how much time the Shure has on it, so am looking for recommendations as to whether I should look for a JICO stylus if i need to...or if that table responds well to a different particular cartridge?   Any comments/experiences appreciated.
regards,
hibuck

What's the rest of your system like?

Having used Rega tables extensively, I've had great luck with the P25 and:

Denon DL-103R
Dynavector 17D3
Grado Master Reference
Lyra Dorian
Shelter 501
The Rega Elyse II

Depending on the tonality you are after and whether you can use a MC cartridge
these have been my favorites with that table.

It will be in one of two systems:
Marantz PM11S1 with ADS 910's  or
Rogue Tempest, Usher 6381's and modded Cambridge 640 phono.
I listen to most types of music other than country and rap.
I like a dynamic, full sound with good detail...but am sensitive
to brightness in the upper midrange/lower treble.  (which is why
both my solid state and tube equipment lean slightly towards warm)

I currently have a Denon dp61f that I run either a Grado Silver or a Shure 97xe in.  The Grado is fuller and warmer than the Shure, but the Shure tracks wonderfully and has a bit more bottom end.

That's about as much as I can tell you.  Thanks for the advice!
Hibuck...

Ortofon 2M Red. Performs WAY above its price point ($99).

Cheers,

I've been using an Audio Technica OC-9 ml11 with my Rega P 25 with great results.  This is a great inexpensive cartridge.  Much better than the rega offerings.
