Mac mini to sb3

Mac mini g4 via Ethernet to older modified squeezebox sb3. Is this older Mac mini a reasonable source? I would need to add an external storage (does it have fire wire?). I have a chance at this Mac mini for low $$. The Mac mini will not be used for any other functions

It has Firewire 400. You'll want to check that it has Leopard (OSX 10.5) on it, as the current version of itunes needs it. Can't comment on the SB.

You'd be ahead of me there
I'd certainly be interested in hearing recommendations
With regard to the G4 hardware, also be aware that it's only got two USB ports. It's kinda slow by modern standards but doesn't seem to be phased at all by music playback.
If you can get one cheap I'd say why not. I'm kinda glad I didn't toss/give mine away as it's proving useful.

The SB3 will require Squeezebox Server which ports to pretty much any OS. I'm not aware of any Squeeze Box capable of play back from any other SW. The good news is that its free.

I used a G4 for quite a while with no problems using a setup as you described. One limitation you will have is that some of the newer players such as Audirvana require Mac OS 10.6 and some software runs only on Intel processors. I mention this in case you decide to try another player. I haven't looked around but I would imagine there are plenty of used Intel Mac Minis on Ebay.

Icrim
Thanks for the reminder, I do not need I tunes, I just need squeebox software. So the mini should be fine.
Is $175 a good deal in the Mac world?

I am not lcrim, but I do scrounge PC's for fun.
In the Toronto, Ontario, Canada market, that mini would be a good deal by about $25-$50.
