Fred Langa has been writing tech articles for as long as I can remember, this month he has a great writeup about the LizaMoon virus that has hijacked links on millions of websites in the past weeks, including some normally safe iTunes and Google links.

Fred deliberately infects one of his computers taking screen shots along the way. He then gives detailed instructions how to clean up and remove the virus after an infection.

Browsing pictures via Google gets that popup from many Russian/ East Bloc sites. i always go to "Control/Alt/delete" and kill the app it is in. It has managed to at least get far enough to make my Microsoft antovirus get excited. But usually the delete eliminates it.
The Google photos gets it as a popup a LOT depending on the type of images searched.
Curious the worst are the most innoculous :search  'butterflies'.  then one clicks on the photo to go to it and boom the pop up from Hell. Plenty of others topics have that happen like that in the photos. I have never had that pop up in any other use of the web
