i would really appreciate any tips on how to silence rattling widows. they drive me insane when they rattle every time i play music with low frequencies on my stereo. are there any tricks? i don't care about the window - it faces a wall.

Ahhh, Right up my alley (some will know what I mean  ). First , if that's a double hung window (opens up and down), make sure the sash lock is locked. Also, weatherstripping around a window may help stop the vibrations. A heavy curtain over the window should cut down on vibrations too. It's the bass notes that cause your rattle....lower the bass, if possible. If all else fails....got a hammer ?

Arthur,

You may also want to try some 1 " (or larger if you can stand looking at it) of constrained layer damping in the corners of the offending windows. I bought mine at Parts Express and have cut 1" squares and placed in all my windows in my listening room.  As solid proof that they are mostly unnoticable...my wife hasn't even mentioned that she's seen them :!:

Wolfy's on to something with the weatherstripping, too...but clay caulking compound or PlastiClay (or any brand modelling clay) around the edges should silence those rattles a bit better do to their heavier weight.
