I have been on a recent mission to fill out my collection of acoustic guitar music.  I have a large number of "the usual suspects" in many different genres: gypsy jazz (Django and clones/acolytes), Fahey (and Fahey-influenced), jazz, contemporary, Latin/flamenco, classical, world music (many types), many other styles, etc.

I was hoping that folks could recommend some lesser-known players of terrific merit (particular style is less important) and/or those acoustic guitarists that merit a higher profile.  Definite plus for recordings of high quality to match.  I'm trying to get re-motivated to pick up my instrument again.

For example, I was impressed by a recommendation I picked up here on AC while making sure that there was not already a thread devoted to this subject: Vlatko Stefanovski & Miroslav Tadic "Krushevo" on M-A Recordings.

I'm not sure if you'd consider him under the radar, but Tony McManus is terrific.  I'd recommend "Ceol More."

Another one of my favorites is Duck Baker, who has quite a catalog that covers Jazz, Celtic, and on many others.  I'd recommend "My Heart Belongs to Jenny" which leans to the Irish side of things.

He's playing a nylon string there (pretty much a random grab from YouTube), but most of his recordings are steel string.

I picked these two (of many!) because they're both a lot more than speedy players; their arrangements tend to be really nice.  Plus Tony is all about non-standing tuning and Duck is all about standard tuning.

Don Ross -- primo.  The guy is a machine.
Love Tony McManus.  Have a couple including "Ceol More" and "Shifting Sands".
Preston Reed.  I really dig "Metal".  Lovely album.
Kapsalis/Ivanovic Duo.  I am hoping to see them on April 23rd in Chicago....if the boss consents.

I'm not sure whether she would classify as under the radar, but you may want to check out Kaki King-preferably her instrumental only albums.  She doesn't have a bad voice but it's not up to her guitar playing level.

Good name Wayner - Michael Hedges - The absolute king of acoustic guitar - "Aerial Boundaries" is one of my all time favorite albums and a lesser known is also wonderful "Breakfast in the Field" with george winston on electric bass.
