I'll certainly try to help if you decide to root your nook.

Speed Update: I changed the router wireless channel to 8 (from the default 6) and now Speedtest reports 9.24Mbps. That was painless.

So far both the stock browser and Dolphin HD browser are not quite ready for prime time. Both have real slow page loads, reminds me of my old dial-up. Everything else runs smoothly.

I recently found two apps that you'll like: Wifi Analyzer and Overlook Fing.

Wifi Analyzer shows your wifi strength and any other networks it can detect. It also will show what channels are better, if any. I thought that would be really useful, but it's more eye candy, since your router determines the channel and I'm not about to log in to the router and change it manually every time I go online  :duh:  I also think the router chooses the best channel when turning on, but I could be wrong. And how often does it turn off/on anyway.

Overlook Fing is just interesting: it shows all the devices that are connected to your network. I guess that could be useful for security?

I picked up a 16GB Sandisk SD card from Radio Shack (SDSDQ-016G-A11M) for $29.99 and did a fresh install of the last stable CM7 Encore build and the Nook is a whole new animal.

I too am using a Sandisk card for CM7, purchased from ... Barnes and Noble ... I probably paid a little too much but I had a gift certificate.  :thumb:

Wow the Nook color looks like a great 7" device when hacked especially if you don't care about a phone service device.

For wifi tablet, an adventurous IT guy from work ordered this for his wife to replace an older one. They are really happy with it. It was less than $80 delivered!

I have considered it, since he already played the guinea pig on sending his money out like that. But I can't justify it, since I really don't need one for anything...

I bought the Nook Color for a few of reasons: it is the perfect size to read in bed, it can easily be hacked, the price seemed fair, and it has an excellent screen. I have read that Bluetooth can be enabled so phone calls can be made using a Bluetooth headset and Skype.

My brother bought a Pandigital pad for his daughter so I checked it out first. Reviews are very mixed but one of it's faults is the resistive touchscreen, for that reason alone I scratched it off my list. The Nook Color has a 7-inch VividView touchscreen from LG that can display more than 16 million colors. The capacitive touchscreen is so sensitive you barely have to touch the display for it to react. Scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, highlighting, tapping letters on the keyboard, and navigating through menus all work really well.

A cheap Android tablet may work for reading books but the user experience could be less than ideal when using it for other tasks .

The Nook Color sounds pretty good through headphones. I'm using the white earbuds that came with an iPod nano and listening to internet radio right now.

I found this radio app called A Online Radio that has an Add Channel page.
I entered my favorite radio station's streaming URL: http://pubint.ic.llnwd.net/stream/pubint_kxci
and it works!

To find the streaming URL of your favorite station click on "Click to View Clip Info" (lower left) in RealPlayer while listening on your computer.

Going out to get a Nook today but I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the MPD Android-based clients would work on this (and are any of them optimised for tablets)? I'm thinking of DroidMPD or MPDroid. I have no experience with any of them. Just MPod, which works great with an iTouch.  If so I could use it to control my Aix-based pc audio playback.

mpdroid works just fine on my nook color running CM7. Not optimized for tablets but looks and works fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Another quick question, whgen you run MPDroid on your Nook can you see the full titles of the albums, etc? Running the MPod MPD client on my iTouch, I can't see full titles (it isn't optimised for horizontal view) which makes it a pain when you have about 25 Bob Marley titles, etc......if the Nook uses the screen real estate to display full titles, etc. that would be great.

I believe so but I'll check tomorrow to be certain my foot isn't hanging out of my mouth... :)

I got one while I am waiting on an iPad2 order.  I haven't had a tablet before but this seems to do everything -- Web, e-mail, FB and tons of aps in addition to the library (preloaded with 100 classic novels).  What else do I need?

So is there other reasons people are choosing the color Nook over other smaller tablets out there?

Being as I forgot to post this... yes, it showed full titles. I can grab a screen shot if you like.

Have you heard about an issue with getting the battery replaced?  I read that they don't replace them after warranty expiry, so when battery dies its plug in only.  Maybe someone out there knows how to do it?
