Hagerman clarinet/ Jasmine 2.0mk2 hum
« on: 2 Apr 2011, 02:24 am »
I just purchased a new Jasmine 2.0 mk2 and connected to a MMF5 and Hagerman Clarinet. There is a very noticeable hum at about half volume on the clarinet? ( dead quiet with cd player)I have the MMF5 ground lug attached to the Jasmine. I tried attaching an additional ground from the Clarinet to the jasmine , no effect.
I also tried all shielded interconnects except the mmf5 's that are fixed.  I plan to upgrade the MMF 5 very soon .However I need to chase down this HUM. Suggestions please????

Its the MC setting on the Jasmine/ the mm is pretty quiet at near full volume. Anyone used this combination/ I guess its time for SUT, recommendations please--- What a way to go crazy  on a friday night .

I have a Jasmine and noise issues can be a pia, I had some
and it turned out to be the Jasmine was sensitive to noise from
my vpi/belt/platter, I had to pull my motor further away from my platter

try putting a ground cheater on the Jasmine, if that does not work try the
clarinet

Good Luck

I tried cheaters. Its the MC setting. The MM setting is near quiet at full volume. MC considerable hum at half volume. I assume an SUT will resolve the issue. Am I right?

I decided after speaking with Bob/ Bobdevices to use an SUT. Bob has a Jasmine himself and thought the MM was superior to the MC so I ordered an SUT this morning. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for the reply.

Well, maybe Bob wants to sell you a step-up? I don't agree with that. Both sections are pretty damn good sounding on the Jasmine. I'm running a DL103R on the MC side of the Jasmine and it sounds pretty fine to me. Oh, no hum either. The only noise I get is when I have my lamp on with a dimmer. Down the road I may get a step- up.  At 70 db gain on MC side I don't need it now, unless I get one of "Bob's" used (they go fast). I heard the hum is introduced using the step-up device.

Oh, the DL103R is not supposed to work on a Rega arm either, BS!!

YMMV and all the other cautions but there is too much misinfo out there.

Questions, comments, send me a bitch letter. You don't like after you buy it, sell it. It will sell in 2 days.

Do you have a German Heritage ?--you have a attitude like mine. Anyway , when I moved my 300b transformers away from the Jasmine It was quiet. The Hagerman Clarinet has a little tube sound at about 2pm on the gain, which is louder than I use the preamp. I did purchase the SUT from Bob and I believe it is even a little quieter and an improvement over  the MC section of the Jasmine. I am using Bluejeans cable LC1 interconnects presently. In the near future I will have the audio buds over and switch out the SUT and also try my diy unshielded silver interconnects etc etc and report back on our opinions, what ever thats worth, related to the different hook ups. Naw not German, no offense intended in any way.
Just sarcastic to go with some of the "know it all's" here on AC.
Bob's stuff is supposed to be some of the best right now. I have not heard one yet.

"Gopher" in past comments agrees too the CinMag added a little more presence but also said the CinMag introduced more hum unless you use shielded cables and careful placement. You have to do what is best for your system and ears.

And above all ENJOY!
Let us now what you think.
