PP300 V 4BSST2
« on: 1 Apr 2011, 04:26 pm »
I was wondering what with the 4B having 'squared' technology, if it was that far ahead on performance of a PP300.  I sold all five of my PP's last year to help a house move and now I'm looking for just a pair.  I like the monoblock idea, they'll sit under each PMC, but not if they're now way behind a 4BSST2.

Ideas please.

PS. I can't afford 7B's.

I was running 5 PP 300's and now have a 4BSST2, PP300, and B100.  The new 4B sounds better than a pair of 300's, particularly at lower levels.  Overall it has more width, depth, and a 3D holographic sense to the image.  Even though my high frequency hearing is greatly diminished, it still sounds smoother to me as well.  I can't comment on bass as I have my amps running at 60hz and up.

The 4BSST2 is much better than a pair pp300 especially in the upper to mid. Furthermore, the powerpaks have not been revised to incorporate some of the improvements from the squared series.

I always wondered why Bryston didn't make a mono 300W(at 8 ohm) amp perhaps to accommodate a center channel, while the 4B SST feeds the front L/R. I guess it's because the 6B SST serves the same purpose. According to some home theater audioheads, the power for the front L/R and center should be shared and distributed as needed from the same amp/chassis. Who knows?
