I did what lee suggested and the settings are grayed out with the checkbox to give control as specified by the application...under advanced even though the choices are grayed out ( 24/96,16/44 and a bunch inbetween) when I hit TEST I still get the test sound....

If I uncheck the box that gives apps control and reboot will I get control back--maybe...before I do that I'm going to install the latest ASIO drivers...see ya in awhile

Here are two shots of Amarra running, you can see the file sizes, etc.  Maybe they will help:

Amarra playing back an HDTracks FLAC that has been converted to AIFF by Amarra, using a "final release candidate" Sonicweld Diverter 192.

Peace,

Lee

Amarra is like major dollars thought isn't it...I'm hanging with Media Monkey GOLD  mind you, no trial edition here!!!  LOL..
I got diverted from trying these ideas...I did get latest ASIO drivers and I'm going to see how badly I can screw up my laptop...hopefully be back soon...

Amarra is not cheap, no.  And, you have to have a Mac.  So, certainly not an ideal setup for everyone.

If you have a PC, you are on the right track with the ASIO drivers!  And, if the DAC has a USB receiving chip that will support higher sample rates than 48kHz.

Peace,

Lee

I have Amarra, PM and Fidelia.  I'm still liking PM the best out of the bunch most of the time.

At least I know that everything up to that USB port is at least 24/96 on those particular files so the signal is there...
by the way Steve, the Jan Garbarek Group- Dresden In Concert files from HD tracks are incredible music, I think you'd like the perfomance and music alot.
 Thanks

Wayne-Thanks anyway but I'm not going to worry about it, the gear I have is the gear I'll have for awhile and I'm enjoying the sound immensely--so I'm good, but thanks!!

Ed,

You might want to take Wayne up on his generous offer. The HiFace, for the price, is a great piece. I borrowed one from someone else here when I discovered I could not get anything above 24/96 out of my MacMini via Toslink.

The improvement, with my setup wasn't subtle. I returned the borrowed one and bought my own.

It will also give you more options as far as cables over USB, as there are more quality digital coax cables on the market.

Just my .02.

As far as cables go..I'm only using WyWires-I have never hear anything better! I have one of Alex's digital Coax cables and a USB cable is due tomorrow.
I installed latest ASIO drivers but for the life of me can't find where to pick them to use...ASIO used to have a little inteface with a a big Green Check mark if you were setup right and a Big Red X if not--easy, I need that...LOL. I can't find them anywhere and have reinstalled three times, properties in all sound categories does not yield anything.

The device Wayne is talking about...that takes a signal from where?? If my laptop then if Windows is f_cking that up the damage is done before it gets to Waynes device??

It takes the signal from USB, same as you are doing now, and uses 2 internal oscillators for low jitter. It also uses proprietary drivers.

The idea is two fold: first, a cleaner signal is fed to the DAC to begin with. Secondly, most 24/96 (and above) DACs won't pass more that 24/48 via USB- so this is the work around. You plug a coax or BNC cable (depending on which version you buy) into the female end.

As far as ASIO, Direct out, Foobar....that stuff is why I bailed to the light side (Apple/Mac.) Sorry I can't help there- I erased that from my memory.

OH.....I see.....I'll check them out sometime but right now with it being very hard to move around easily the idea I'm putting in place will be fine...my laptop has HDMI out so I have a 15 ft. HDMI cable coming and Alex-WyWires is sending me a 15 foot USB cable so I'll be able to sit in my comfy chair and control my music, internet and basically my life on my 46" SONY...I'm having alot of trouble walking and they tell me I need to sit, relax, but that makes me feel like I'm bailing out...so I'll meet them (the doctors) halfway..there afraid I'll fall, I have osteoporosis along with every other frigin thing imaginable...so Bob in St Louis has me gaming online with he and his family--its a Blast...when I can afford an ipad2 I'll do facetime with my kids-hopefully....sorry got to stop

Sorry, Ed, wasn't trying to push. And considering what you have been through you seem to be doing quite well. Don't be so hard on yourself, and no need to apologize.
