VTL Wotan Mono Amps - $12,000
« on: 28 Mar 2011, 08:28 pm »
Original retail: $30k

The legendary VTL Wotan is a four chassis, 400 lb amp, with 28 KT-88s per channel. It produces 1200 watts per channel in ultra linear mode, and 600 watts in triode. It is the most powerful tube amp ever, and is legendary in its musicality, bass control, and effortless dynamics. The sound of these amps driving full range speakers (these were used with Joseph Audio Pearls and with B&W 801's) is unparalled. You can have all your tube presence and dynamics, for a price.
.
These pair have seen light use. They have undergone a full recent professional technical inspection, and all tubes have been biased and matched. Cosmetically they are in goodcondition, with a scratch on the faceplate of the amp (I can send more pics to serious buyers). I rated them a conservative 6/10.

Each channel consists of two chassis, which are housed in steel rack. Due to the size and weight, I would prefer a local sale (Seattle area) but am open to shipping, provided the buyer pays all freight and packing. No trades please. Only serious offers considered. Paypal fees not included.

Jonathan Scull said about these amps driving the Utopia's:T"he sound produced by the Wotan-driven Utopias was awesome. The grip and control in the bottom end always riveted me to the Ribbon Chair. In the Utopia review I'd been a touch equivocal about the French speaker's bass. Now, set a touch farther back and a hair closer together than before, and in the lusty grip of the mighty Wotans, I can say that I'm getting the best bass I've ever heard in our system. While I'd mentioned in the original Wotan review that some of the solid-state boys got the bass better and tighter, I can now say . . . fawgedaboutit! The extension, speed, transparency, pitch differentiation, control, and ungodly power in the nether regions knocked me out each time I listened at foundation-rattling levels. Really, it was incredible. Mighty macro to nuanced micro, the bass was always totally majestic, sweeping, and encompassing, utterly acoustic and visceral. I've never heard any other amp—tube, hybrid, or solid-state—that dishes the bass like the Wotans managed in our system."
