I posted in the Open Baffle forum and they threw me out!   They said that my SoundScapes are not a pure open baffle.  I looked in the archive and found out that Jim and Dennis never specifically stated that they were an Open Baffle speaker.  What are they?

Maybe we should just call them an open back speaker.  A true open baffle would not have a cabinet behind the driver to help control wrap around of an out-of-phase signal in the lower frequencies, and would probably also have an open baffle woofer.  Or Jim could call it a Pseudo-Quasi-Sort-Of-Open-Baffle.  Kind of.

The woofer and tweeter are not open baffle, the midrange can be, depending.....

In the purest sense, an open baffle is a speaker mounted on a board (baffle). No box.

The Salk Archos are a "hybrid" baffle. Open baffle mid and high, woofer in a box.

A lot of open baffle speakers have the wings folded back.  I haven’t seen any with them folded back this tightly though.  I am not sure there is a rule.
