Kenwood KT-7300
« on: 27 Mar 2011, 09:14 pm »
Hi Folks. Just picked up a pretty nice Kenwood KT-7300 on Ebay. I was wondering if anyone knows what a quality FM alignment costs. Thanx for any info. Rich.

I dont know much about FM alignment, but i found something that could help.

If you're good with electronics, you can DIY.

i think you would expect to pay $75-$100 for a competent alignment.  but, to be frank, i wouldn't bother.  i would recommend selling it and getting another tuner.  why?  ime, the kenwoods simply don't offer the sonic goods, unless completely modified, and then, you would want to start with at least the kt7500.  i owned a completely stock, perfect condition kt8300 - even better than the kt7500 - and its sound was only so-so at best. plan on ~$300 for a first-rate alignment and mods for something like a kt7500 or kt8300.  these would be a better bet for mods than the kt7300.

if you want to keep it under $100 for the cost of a tuna, and get sound that will surpass these stock kenwoods, look for something like a nikko gamma 1, hitachi ft8000 (one yust sold on ebay for <$40), jvc fx1100bk, creek cas3140, sansui tu517 (if you're patient), or a bunch more - there's a plethora of tuna for the same price or less than a stock kt7300 that will outperform it, imo.  these tunas i mentioned will outperform even the kt8300, imo, and that one usually sells for ~$250-$300...

for lots of good tuna info, check out fmtunerinfo.com and its related yahoo forum...
