Connection Diagram

Does Frank have a connection diagram flow chart to connect his components. Can't seem to find it on his site even though it is probably there somewhere.

I am looking to connect a amp, pre amp, dac and source. Have not had to think about these connections in a while and just wanted to review and make sure i connect correctly.

Thank You!

Hi. I don't think there is a diagram but it is very straight forward. Take the digital out from your source to the DAC, from the DAC to the preamp CD in. And the amp to the preamp main out.  8)

If you have trouble, I can make you a block diagram. It's pretty simple and straight forward as Martyo has suggested. Just keep the left channel and the right channel of anything going to the same left and right channels, not mixing them up. There are 2 preamp outputs and you can use either one (I suggest output 1) just to keep it simple. All of the other inputs are line level so you can use any input you would like, however, if you ordered a phono board for a turntable, it is put in the special spot. This is for MM cartridges with outputs of 2.0 to 5.0 mv.

While we are on this, I have an AVA preamp that has a inverter card which I'd like to try out sometime, if anyone would provide me with a connection diagram for this function, I'd appreciate it, I don't have two identical amps for it, but I'd try it anyway.

There's no inverter output 2 as in the diagram, however, there are something call EPL in, and EPL out, whatever that may be. So looks like I only need one amp and not two, I must have had this and the bi-amp mixed up.

EPL is external processor loop - like for an EQ or dBX unit.

EPL also gives you some non-processed connections for use with home theater processors & the like in a combo 2 channel/HT system. They can be used rather than Tape connections, and don't have any of the problems that could occur when using the Tape ins/outs. Frank has a diagram of that arrangement back in the Audio Basics, fall of '99, page 3.

Yes! Thanks - that's the one I was looking for.

I've got a PAT-5/FET-II, and I've sort of been keeping an eye out for an external DSP that would let me run stereo through my AVA stuff (pass the input signal on back more or less untouched) to the PAT and decode the center and surround for 5.1 when it's in the source material.  The movies I've watched (OTA, DVDs, and roku streaming) have all been impressive enough just through the AVA/Hsu two channel setup (with or without sub engaged) that I don't feel compelled to put an external DSP very high on my planned acquisitions list.

But assuming I get the surround bug, what suggestions would readers of this forum have for a decent, budget-priced, external unit, with or without power amps?

Well, there's no inverted output in this preamp.

If your AVA preamp has the Inverter option, then Line Out 2 jacks will be inverted 180 degrees in relation to the standard Line Out 1 Jacks.

Refer to the diagrams posted earlier herein for best use.

Notice that one speaker has to be wired out of phase when using one amplifier, or you will be out of phase!
