Geddes Summa 15-inch Waveguides
« on: 14 Mar 2011, 12:17 pm »
As some of you probably remember, I've bought these here exactly a year ago.

Meanwhile I've assembled them and they play in my room.

The reason for sale is I want to make the exact waveguides out of plywood. Frankly speaking not a big fan of the original manufacturer's approach when it comes to cutting the costs as well as the looks. I certainly prefer wooden horns in my room.

I paid the bellow described lot $1080 and I'm offering it for sale for the same plus shipping or the best offer.

So what you get is: a pair of waveguides with sponge foam plugs, original crossover/filter schematic, a pair of assembled upper horn filters with aircore coils, polyprops and L-pad.

Paypal accepted with 3% extra fee alternatively a bank transfer to my euro account.

I'm based in Europe and prefer shipping to Europe, however I can ship this worldwide at cost.

Here's the text of the original add which summarize what you gets. The waveguides were mounted but are easy to remove, the drivers and crossovers are fully run in.

Alternatively I can sell a fully assembled speaker as it might be fun to start building them with wooden horns from scratch out of plywood - now I'm pretty confident they work well as a design so worth of experimenting. The pair for sale only needs a final sanding, painting or veneering and (maybe) some damping of the cabs. Cabs are made of 2" MDF, the same dimensions as Summa. I''ve opted for the first version, front ported - aimed to use with no subs. These cost me $2500 or 1800 euros, so this is my asking price. The last price I know for factory assembled ones was in the range of $7-8000.

You may want to experiment with cabinet damping or crossover parts for fine tuning. I've had no time for this yet.

Geddes Summa 15-inch Waveguides (Pair)

Pair of Geddes 15-inch Waveguides with patented foam plugs. These are the exact waveguides contained in the Summa loudspeaker that has received rave reviews from audiophiles the world over. The current compression driver mounted on these waveguides is the B&C DE-250 (16 ohm version) and I am also offering a high-pass crossover that is the exact Summa high pass (900 Hz crossover point) version made with air core coils and polypropelene caps with point-to-point wiring. The crossovers (not pictured) are in small boxes and include a 16 ohm, 100W LPAD to control the volume of the compression driver since it is incredibly efficient. The Geddes schematic is included.
This combination of waveguide, foam plug, compression driver, and Geddes designed crossover must be heard to be believed. Their CD design provides a huge sweet spot with electrostatic transparency and perfect tonal balance. The compression driver also provides incredible efficiency and high SPL capability

You do realize that this is a patented design.  Right?

Point?

@jtwrace

please do not troll the sale thread.

if you have any objection, you have parts (subforums) of the website where you can object to the topic.

btw, this is exactly the same ad from 1 year ago by a previous owner of the WGs and i don't think it's forbidden to sell the parts that geddes once sold to a DIY-er or a finished DIY speaker.

If they were purchased from me originally, then there is no problem with any patents, however, I have serious questions that they came from me.  That's because I have not sold 15" waveguides for several years (the last time was back in 08) and even then I only sold a few.  I stopped because they were not made as well as I would have liked, they certainly are not the same as the Summa or any of my current models (the contour is corect, but not the construction).  The only 15" waveguides that I have ever sold were simply fiberglass with a wood mounting surface glued on.  All of my current waveguides are cast and about 2" thick at their minimum, about 8" across at their throat.  The fiberglass was only about 3/16" thick.  It would certainly be possible to back up these devices with a 2" layer of heavy material, which I would certainly do if I had them.  I have never and would never use an L-Pad, so thats certainly not in my crossover.

I am not saying that these are not made by me, only that some of the claims are certainly not true and that would make me suspicious. If the OP would tell me his name and when/where he purchased them I will confirm their validity or not.

these are purchased here at audiocircle from a member JDUB in may 2010.

i have expected a reaction from geddes supporters, as seen many times before.

however i would be really careful not to sh*t on my own product quality control and what i was selling, at least if i would aim to such audio peaks today.

best wishes!

PS. L-pad is not in the original schematics, however it's obviously put there instead of the fixed resistor to adjust the HF driver output. as simple as that. now i expect objection to using a 2" MDF, right?

unfortunately too high shipping costs prohibit a sale to the US, so EU customers preferred. thanks!
