Thanks for the advice.I'll look into your recommendations. While we're on the subject of the HD800, what's your opinion on that?
I bought the Musical Paradise MP-301 for headphones and love it, all tubes baby!!! 6 watts X 2 and the new better version just came out which I will have to get some how...worth a look..$247and a link to the webstore: No affiliation here except I'm a happy customer!!http://www.musicalparadise.ca/mp/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=75
I'm really excited about that little MP-301. At 6wpc, it could even drive a set of speakers at reasonable levels, and I luv the way it looks. I was skeptical about the sound quality of such an inexpensive amp, so I checked the website which was loaded with testimonials, which isn't necessarily impartial coming from the company's own website, so I looked for them on Ebay, and they have a flawless reputation there as well. Add to that a money back guarantee by Musical Paradise, and how can you go wrong? Does anyone have more personal knowledge of the company or owner? Is it a one man shop? Thanks, Eclein, and to you Lee. You don't even know me and you are offering to send the amp to me first? Let me know, and I'd be happy to take you up on your offer. That's what I always loved about AC. I used to be a very involved and active member, but I haven't visited with the AC folks much the past few years, but I always loved the sense of community.
Hi John - how are things down under? Were you affected by that awful flooding?
I'm really liking the 800's. They are beginning to win me over, and I'm listening to them almost exclusively. Part of that might be due to the excitement of having a new toy, but the quality of the sound is so impressive. It's like listening to a full range speaker system with unlimited dynamic range and the elimination of all room effects. The frequency response is so balanced with no noticeable exaggeration or absence of any frequency range. They are extremely resolving and allow me to hear much more deeply into the music. I previously owned an HD600 and there is no comparison. No speaker system I've heard offers the same sound quality and top to bottom balance. The only thing I don't get - and this is a really big thing - is the deep soundstage laid out in front of me. It requires a different mindset.
Interesting to hear. Are you able to listen for long periods?
I'm just wondering if a better headphone amp can make a difference.
