How about another STL meet? March 26th
« on: 11 Mar 2011, 04:46 am »
A local DIY speaker builder friend of mine has been wanting to host a get-together in St Louis for some time ... so I volunteered to have it at my house.  In preparation I've finished off a 24'x14' dedicated listening room in the basement, and will also have 2 other rooms setup as well.

You all know I'll have plenty of speakers, and a couple of the other attendees will be bringing their own DIY speaker creations.  So there will be some speaker swapping going on in the various rooms.  And if anybody wants to bring something to swap in, feel free ... I'm sure we could give just about anything a listen.

In addition I'll have lots of other gear here, since I've started writing electronics reviews for Stereomojo.  One notable that will be here is the new Eastern Electric M88 tube integrated, I think a lot of people are going to love this amp ... I know I do!

I live out in House Springs, a couple blocks up the street from Bob.  Address is:

5962 Town and Country Ln
House Springs, MO  63051

We'll start around 11am, and go till whenever.  If anybody wants lunch while here, I'm thinking we can get a load of takeout from the BBQ place up the street.

Anybody?  3 rooms, tons of great gear, and plenty of BBQ ... what more could you want

Hi Ryan,

My guess is it's audio overload. We just had Kent's place a couple weeks ago, we've got St Louis Stereo this weekend and yours the following weekend. Maybe to reschedule it sometime after Blackmore's on 4/16 to give everybody some breathing room

I'm sure I'll have more later in addition to this one.  I have some guys coming in from out of town for the DIY part of this gathering, would just be nice to see a few familiar faces.

You could always squeeze a few off from this Saiga if you came over

Well Hell, since I'm like 10 houses away, I should be able to make it.
Not sure if I have to work that day though. If so, it'll be evening before I'll grace your doorway.

Well I'd say it's about time you come down to my end of the street and say hi Bob ... we'll be here all day, so come by anytime.

Uhm, yea ... seems like every week there's a new CD or two lying in my front yard.  What's up with that?

2 more CD's in the driveway today, what the heck is going on here?  Of course both were destroyed as they usually are.  But where are they coming from?

Not sure?
In what way are they destroyed? Damage from the sun, rain, freezing, broken....etc..etc..????

Chances of me making it the 26th are becoming slimmer.
The list of "to-do" things I have to perform has grown, and with having to work most of the day Saturday....  :?

I'd love to stop by briefly, but you know as well as I know what "briefly" would turn in to.

Try and come by for at least a few minutes Bob.  Someone named Howard is coming who says he knows you, got some speakers from you once.  I also have a couple fantastic KT88 tube integrateds I'm sure you'd like to hear.

My plans this weekend have changed.  I will be in town, so I will be out.
Anything I can bring?  Vinyl?  Munchies?

Yip, "HDSpeakerman" got some vintage Yamaha 3ways from me a few years back.
Good guy. He likes my system, which makes him an extra good guy in my book.  8)

*IF* I can make it, it'll be close to 4:00 at best. But no promises. Sorry man.

Sorry,

I chickened out about five miles down 30.  It was solid slush and will be ice soon.  I'll look forward to getting by at some time.  Best, Kent

There are six cars parked in the driveway and street so it certainly looked like there was a party going on, but....

Garage door was closed.
Front door was locked.
No answer after knocking.
You don't have a door bell.
Nobody on the back deck.
Back to front door, nobody answers second knock.
There's a snowball sitting at the end of your front porch. It has your name on it. Please put your face into it.

I'm sure Kent would have been PISSED had he made it the rest of the way down highway 30.

Dude..... Fail

Firsf off, a big thank you to the our gracious host for a truely wonderful weekend.

This was a get together that was well worth the trip, though the distance I traveled pales by comparison to the distances that others, farther away, traveled.

First off the sounds both upstairs and down, were amazing and fully refuted any notion that small speakers need huge amounts of watts.

Any day that one can learn one new bit of knowledge, is a good day.  Yesterday filled my quota for more than a week.

The two materials for the floor and wall treatment, new info.

Several decor ideas for room treatments, new info.

The two improvements to the two DIY loudspeakers that dragged their owner all the way to House Springs, MO from Bloomington, IL, new info.

The test equipment for the frequency chart and for the low frequency system electro-mecahnical impedance, new info.

A great BBQ resturant, new info.

A nifty bit of freeware for selecting and controling audio files, new info.

Speakers that I've never heard before, new info.

New faces of people that I haven't met at other MAS get togethers!

And the best bit of all, the most gracious host plans to do it again in a month or two!

Don't miss out next time, you'll regret it.
